Team story

[p]Hi and thank you for visiting our page which means that you are thinking of donating.  Please, please do not stop there and give as much as you can to Starlight.[/p][p][lt]img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-CLZO-fH3ry4/U2O2WIZWFQI/AAAAAAAAAKc/DRPojyCx0DI/s1024/alpinismo%252C1675.jpeg" alt="" width="400" height="267" /[gt][/p][p]As you can see from the counter on the left of this page there is not long to go before we attempt to climb Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe at over 16,000 feet.[/p][p]This will by no means be a walk in the park and will involve 5 days of climbing at altitude and 3 nights in mountain huts.  Our first 3 days will be spent acclimatizing and will consist of climbing different summits every day, including the highest mountain in Italy, and will involve climbing at altitude for 7 hours a day.[/p][p]For the actual ascent of Mont Blanc we will look to set off around 4am (weather permitting) way before sunrise, from our hut and walk for 12-14 hours, more or less non-stop, until we have reached the sumit and then returned to the hut.  Obviously this will demand a lot of endurance in both body and mind.[/p][p][lt]img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-AO_ryBQxbp8/U2O2U7nlcbI/AAAAAAAAAKM/PNqgZWWhVus/s800/chamonix-sommet-du-Mont-bla.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="160" /[gt][/p][p]We are also going to be learning to be confident climbers with ice crampons and axes in exposed glacial terrain and knowing how to use a rope to protect all our team is also a must.  The travel on glaciers demands competence in both rope work and crevasse rescue techniques.[/p][p]Starlight is a small children's charity which has a massive impact on the lives of seriously and terminally ill children and their families throughout the UK.  They are the only children's charity that delivers services into every children's ward in hospitals and hospices throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man[/p][p]When Starlight began, in 1986, they helped just 4 children, this year they will entertain over 500,000 and all this without a single penny from the Government or Lottery.[/p][p]Doctors and nurses can treat a childs illness, they can work to make a child better, but it is difficult to make a child happy at this time: This is what Starlight does best in hospitals all over the country.  We all know that a happy child gets better quicker and Starlight leads the way in paediatric palliative care.  Their work is an important adjunct to the child's treatment.[/p][p]For more information on Starlight please visit their page [url=http://www.starlight.org.uk/][b]HERE[/b][/url] and for more information on where you generous donation is likely to end up please click [url=http://www.starlight.org.uk/what-we-do/][b]HERE[/b][/url].[/p][p]I think that you will all agree that us and Starlight are doing our bit now we must ask you to kindly do yours, please, please please  give as much as you can and please tick the gift aid box - this means a HUGE difference to the charity and will not cost you a penny extra.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the charity. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]Many thanks for the seperate donations received from:[/p][p]Gladstone Trust[span=white-space: pre;] [/span]£   200.00[lt]br /[gt]Nick Lyle [span=white-space: pre;] [/span]£   100.00[lt]br /[gt]The DeWinter's[span=white-space: pre;] [/span]£   250.00[lt]br /[gt]BTIG Limited[span=white-space: pre;] [/span]£9,000.00[lt]br /[gt]J E Lyons[span=white-space: pre;] [/span]£   100.00[lt]br /[gt]J Weston[span=white-space: pre;] [/span]£   100.00[lt]br /[gt]M and M Sherwood[span=white-space: pre;] [/span]£1,000.00 [lt]br /[gt]Sandra Collins[span=white-space: pre;] [/span]£   100.00[lt]br /[gt]Niki + Micky Sacher     £1,000.00[lt]br /[gt]Katie + Roddy Canvin  £2,000.00[lt]br /[gt]G Ronson Foundation[span=white-space: pre;] [/span]£2,000.00 [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
