[p]Thank you for visiting our team's fundraising page for the 2020 London Legal Walk 10xChallenge. Having conquered 10,000 Steps for Justice in June, we will be completing 10K for justice remotely on the 5th October.[/p][p]Some of us will also be taking on creative 10xChallenges, where showcasing any skills, talents and fancy dress is strongly encouraged. [/p][p]Our team is: Sarah Memmi, Gregory Stewart, Sabrina Neves, Lynn Roberts, Nusrat Chowdury, Kath Jatter, Shelly Borroughs, Rochelle Dennie, Katie Spence[/p][p]We are walking with the Lord Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers remotely to raise funds for the London Legal Support Trust which funds Law Centres and pro bono agencies in and around London. [/p][p]We will also be supporting Just For Kids Law with 50% of the funds we raise.[/p][p]Two-thirds of the UK population don’t know how to get legal advice and 14 million people who live in poverty can’t afford to pay for it. The London Legal Walk raises vital funds to ensure access to justice for some of our communities’ most poor and vulnerable people. [/p][p]Your support is needed now more than ever with the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. Reduced funding in the charity sector means advice agencies are doing all they can to meet rising need despite a drastically restricted income. Emergency applications for funding are pouring in, with advice charities reporting up to a 600% increase in requests for help.[/p][p]We also know how short they are of the funds to continue that work as this is the essence of what we as a firm stand for: GT Stewart Solicitors & Advocates was set up in 2003 by a group of lawyers committed to fighting for clients whether they could pay privately or needed legal aid. We could see that the climate was changing both for the law and publicly funded work. Law firms would need to change with the times to survive.[/p][p]Central to this was going to be well trained adaptable lawyers who had the skills and tenacity to withstand a greater antipathy to those who represented people accused of crime generally and especially if it was funded at the public’s expense.[/p][p]Today the firm has over 175 staff across a national network of offices. It has been nominated and shortlisted for many legal awards. It is proud to be recommended in the leading legal directories – Chambers UK and the Legal 500. It is also proud to support and be active with charities like Just For Kids Law and its Youth Justice Legal Centre, and to have leading practitioners in the field of Youth Justice. GT Stewart Solicitors is also all that the London Legal Walk stands for, with departments in Criminal Appeals and Prison Law, Family Law, Community Care and Mental Health, Actions Against the Police, Housing - because we do not forget that every client really does matter.[/p][p]Please sponsor our walkers as generously as you are able[/p][p]Many thanks for your support[/p]
