My story

[p]Thank you for visiting our team's fundraising page for the 2020 London legal sponsored walk. We're taking on 10K for justice on the 5th October.[/p][p]Despite the postponement of the London Legal Walk due to COVID-19, many of us will still be marking 8th June with a virtual 10,000 Steps for Justice, before coming together in solidarity and support for frontline free legal advice services at the main walk in October. The virus is creating an urgent and unprecedented need for advice agency services and it is vital that they continue to receive funding during this difficult period.[/p][p]Our team is: Sarah Memmi, Kevin Williams, Gregory Stewart, Sabrina Neves, Lynn Roberts, Nusrat Chowdury, Kath Jatter, Shelly Borroughs, Adam Marley, Rochelle Dennie, Katie Spence, Melanie Krudy[/p][p]We are walking with the Lord Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers to raise funds for the London Legal Support Trust which funds Law Centres and pro bono agencies in and around London. [/p][p]We will also be supporting Just For Kids Law with 50% of the funds we raise.[/p][p]Two-thirds of the UK population don’t know how to get legal advice and 14 million people who live in poverty can’t afford to pay for it. The London Legal Walk raises vital funds to ensure access to justice for some of our communities’ most poor and vulnerable people. [/p][p]The event supports over 100 legal advice agencies in London and the South East. We know that these agencies do a fantastic job in preventing homelessness, resolving debt problems, gaining care for the elderly, fighting discrimination and exploitation.[/p][p]We also know how short they are of the funds to continue that work as this is the essence of what we as a firm stand for: GT Stewart Solicitors & Advocates was set up in 2003 by a group of lawyers committed to fighting for clients whether they could pay privately or needed legal aid. We could see that the climate was changing both for the law and publicly funded work. Law firms would need to change with the times to survive.[/p][p]Central to this was going to be well trained adaptable lawyers who had the skills and tenacity to withstand a greater antipathy to those who represented people accused of crime generally and especially if it was funded at the public’s expense.[/p][p]Today the firm has over 175 staff across a national network of offices. It has been nominated and shortlisted for many legal awards. It is proud to be recommended in the leading legal directories – Chambers UK and the Legal 500. It is also proud to support and be active with charities like Just For Kids Law and its Youth Justice Legal Centre, and to have leading practitioners in the field of Youth Justice. GT Stewart Solicitors is also all that the London Legal Walk stands for, with departments in Criminal Appeals and Prison Law, Family Law, Community Care and Mental Health, Actions Against the Police, Housing - because we do not forget that every client really does matter.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Please sponsor our walkers as generously as you are able[/p][p]Many thanks for your support[/p]
