My story

[p]With the birth of a new baby elephant, we are more determined than ever to continue to raise money to keep these wonderful creatures in their natural habitat. Kah Moon's new daughter has brought a smile to everyone's faces and with that we look to our next fundraising challenge...[/p][p]On 20/21 July 2019, volunteers, interns and staff of GVI Chiang Mai will be taking on the challenge of walking to the town of Mae Chaem - over 57km away from the village of Huay Pakoot![/p][p]In the wet and windy weather of the Thai rainy season, this will not just be a test of endurance, but also of dealing with these harsh conditions. The route that we will be walking is the traditional route for mahouts and their elephants took when travelling from the village of Huay Pakoot - we will be following in their footsteps![/p][p]Why are we doing this?[/p][p]Three of the GVI Chiang Mai elephants are entirely funded by the GVI Trust Charity. Khum Suk, Sah Jah and Lulu only remain in the forests of Huay Pakoot due to your generous donations. These elephants are rented from the families that own them and by being with us, they do not have to spend difficult lives in tourist camps - giving rides to up to half a dozen tourists at a time or performing tricks for entertainment. [/p][p]With the birth of Kah Moon's (now over a month old) baby, Khum Suk has another grandchild and Lulu is now a big sister. This event also coincides with Lulu's birthday, who will be 9 years old! Sah Jah is acting as doting aunt, caring for the newborn whenever Kah Moon needs a rest. The growing GVI family needs all the help it can to stay together - your donation will do just that! [/p]
