[p]On Wednesday 7th August 2019 I donated 10 inches of hair to the little princess trust, who provided Liberty with wigs during her treatment.[/p][p]in May I will be running the GX fun run, and a few weeks later the Vitality 10k for the third time. [/p][p]LIBERTY’S STORY[/p][p]On Liberty Schurer’s 13th birthday she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and very aggressive form of bone cancer. She fought with such courage and bravery and still continued to make people laugh and smile throughout her treatment.[/p][p]Just as she was coming to the end of her treatment, Libs discovered a new lump in her leg and it was then was told that despite the incredibly toxic chemotherapy treatment, stem cell transplant and surgery she had endured, the cancer had spread and there was nothing further that could be done. But still she never gave up and in true Libs fashion fought on for a further 2 months, despite such immense pain that no person should ever have to endure, gaining her angel wings just 2 weeks after her 14th birthday on October 11th 2017.[/p][p]Liberty was frustrated by the lack of funding into research for childhood cancers, the survival rates for sarcomas like hers had not improved in over 30 years. Her wish was therefore that we fundraise in her name, she did not want to be forgotten and wanted to raise both awareness and funds for lifesaving research into this deadly disease.[/p][p]Liberty's Legacy is a special fund of the Bone Cancer Research Trust, specifically raising funds for Ewing's, so that one day we can find a cure and fulfil Liberty’s Legacy. [/p][p]With recent news that the research funding for bone cancers from the major UK charities has dropped to a 16 year low at just 0.04% of the overall research budget, we need your donations to help redress the balance more than ever before. Every £1 you can spare really does make a difference and every £30 raised is another hour of life saving research funded and I will be incredibly grateful for anything that you can spare. Thank you so much for reading Liberty’s story.[/p][p]You can find Liberty's Legacy on Facebook @libertyslegacycharity, Instagaram @libertys_legacy and Twitter @libertyslegacy3[/p]
