Team story

[p] A team comprising of Lt Cdr Cox, Capt Engelbrecht, Capt Jackson, WO2 Finch and Sgt Cardoz will be walking 30kms in 6 hours from V-beach Cemetery to the 7th Field Ambulance Cemetery on the Gallipoli peninsula Turkey. They will be carrying the match balls for the United Kingdom Armed Forces (UKAF) and Inter-Service Army vs Navy rugby match during the walk as well as laying Memorial Wreaths at 13 cemeteries along the way in remembrance of the 1.7 million service-men and women that died during the Gallipoli campaign during WW1. During the Gallipoli campaign 17 International rugby players died from Australia, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales, making up 16% of the 104 International rugby players that died during WW1.[/p][p]The inspiration for the fundraising, apart from the enduring work the Royal British Legion (RBL) undertakes, is a most remarkable former RN U23 rugby player and ex-Royal Marine called Aaron Moon. The RBL provided help and support to him and his family during the initial dark days of his story, after which he has proven to be one of life’s amazing, inspirational and courageous people. The RBL continue to provide much needed support to serving and retired service men and women along with their families.[/p][p] Remembrance is not about one day of the year, it is every day. [/p][p] [/p]
