My story

[p]Hello and welcome, thank you for taking the time to pop by![/p][p]This is it, this is happening...On Sunday 4th October 2020 (after postponement) I'll be running the 40th Anniversary Virgin London Marathon for LINC (Leukaemia and Intensive Chemotherapy) in my 41st year.[/p][p]LINC have been such an incredible support for me and continue to be the most incredible support to all those undergoing the kinds of treatment I went through...[/p][p]For those of you who don't know, I mean I never bang on about this or anything...[/p][p]Following a string of illnesses and stress early 2016 I was finally diagnosed in that May with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). A massive shock to me and my family, I was dangerously unwell and admitted to hospital immediately for a duration of 5 weeks.[/p][p]Over the course of the year I underwent 4 separate rounds of chemo, totaling 21 weeks in hospital, over Christmas and my birthday. Treatment for AML is unbelievably intensive with some of the most brutal chemotherapy regimes available for cancer, and so I became really ill; I couldn't have been in a better place though, I was looked after so wonderfully by the staff on Rendcomb ward in Cheltenham hospital and by LINC.[/p][p]LINC provide everything from Sky TV in the side rooms to wonderful psychologists and even financial support, their incredible organisation gave me the chance to make it through treatment in one piece; they continued to support me and my family long after I was discharged for the last time in January 2017. [/p][p]Recovery has been long. I've had to be so patient, receiving treatment and blood transfusions for some weeks/months after being discharged, building up my strength slowly over the months and continuing to be monitored now. My immune system STILL isn't back up to speed - I'm sure I've offended many people by them merely sneezing near me![/p][p]So, here we are, here I am, finally, I'm ready for the big one.[/p][p]If you can, please sponsor me for this journey, for LINC and for those who will be receiving treatment now and in the future. Leukaemia/blood cancers come in many forms and the treatment can be brutal.[/p][p]Some of you will know that I've run a few things in the past, bothered you about it, but this is going to be quite a physical test and thoroughly emotional. You're welcome to come along and cheer me on, too! I would love as many people to be shouting and screaming my name and trying to make me cry as possible (frankly it won't take much, but I'm up for that challenge).[/p][p]So if you can, please sponsor me. It means the world to me to be able to help people who find themselves in the same place I was, to keep those people spirits up, to keep them forging their way through their treatment and making it to where I am.[/p][p]Thank you so much :) [/p][p]G x[/p]
