My story

[p]I am raising vital funds for Children Today who provide specialised equipment for disabled children. [/p][p]When I decided to take on this challenge Children Today were hoping to fill the 10 spaces that they had allocated for this months event although unfortunately I am the charities only entrant for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge taking place on the 13th October so I am even more keen to help them. [/p][p]Originally I understood that the walk was over 24 miles and having walked 22 miles a day on occasion, during my Hadrian's Wall challenge earlier this year and over simiIar terrain, the thought of walking 24 miles was a bit daunting; I have subsequently realised that part of the challenge is to walk the 24 miles within 12 hours, which has really struck home and creates a whole new perspective. In training I have walked up Moel Famau over the last 3 weekends with my best time from the car park to the top to the top of the tower being 33 minutes and 50 seconds. Yesterday I walked a 17 mile section of the Sandstone Trail and I don't mind saying that it was hard going on my feet; I am hoping that with my gym work that I will be up to the challenge; CountryFile today is forecasting rain and wind next Saturday the 13th October when the event takes place; I am hoping that they are wrong. [/p][p]I met with the charity in the summer and could see the dedication and hardwork that they are putting in to help children with disabilities to be able to take part in activities. The money they raise is used to provide [/p][p]Electric wheelchairs and wheelchair power packs[/p][p]Walking aids[/p][p]Adapted trikes[/p][p]Adapted car seats[/p][p]Lifting aids/hoists to enable movement[/p][p]Posturepedic sleep equipment / weighted blankets[/p][p]Sensory equipment including bubble tubes[/p][p]Specialist seating including P Pod support systems[/p][p]The Charity relies totally upon private donations and any contributions would be gratefully received by them. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. [/p]
