My story

[p]You may not be aware of the symptoms of Pancreatic Cancer. I can remember when I wasn't. You may never have known anyone with Pancreatic Cancer. Well, there was once a time I didn't either. [/p][p]My name is Gavin Oattes and I'm running the London Marathon for two simple reasons...[/p][p] One, to raise awareness of Pancreatic Cancer.[/p][p] Two, in memory of my dad, Eric Oattes.[/p][p]My dad died March 20th 2012, and in terms of survival rates/awareness levels I'd love to tell you what has changed since then...ALMOST NOTHING.[/p][p]On track to be the 2nd biggest killer, Pancreatic Cancer is a truly horrendous disease and of all the major cancers has the lowest survival rates and these numbers have barely changed in 50 years. 50 YEARS![/p][p]We need to shout louder, demand better and enhance support for those affected.[/p][p]Pancreatic Cancer Action and Pancreatic Cancer Scotland share the vision that the 2020's must be the decade of change and I am proud to announce that all funds raised will be spent in Scotland. [/p][p]There are about 10,000 new pancreatic cancer cases every year. Just 3% of those diagnosed are alive 5 years later.[/p][p]More needs to be done. Please help.[/p]
