My story

[p]BRAVING THE SHAVE![/p][p][br][/p][p]On Friday 12th June I am shaving my head! I’m doing it for two amazing charities; Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group, and The Candlelighters Trust. These are two charities chosen by my niece Amelia (aka Millie) who is currently battling Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH).[/p][p][br][/p][p]Millie is 12. She loves to bake, is a brilliant majorette and is genuinely one of the kindest people I know. She supports the younger members of her majorette squad in their training, and is great with her little cousins when we all get together.[/p][p][br][/p][p]In 2017 after time in and out of hospital Millie was diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus. The specialists couldn’t identify the definite cause at the time and Millie was put on medication which she will take for the rest of her life.[/p][p]Then in late 2019 Millie had what was thought to be an ear infection, but a number of rounds of antibiotics didn’t shift it. So Millie was sent back to the same amazing team at Leeds General Infirmary who she’d been with a couple of years earlier. [/p][p]Following lots of investigation in early 2020 Millie found out that the cause of the Diabetes Insipidus is Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) and was quickly started on a year long course of chemotherapy. The chemo has left Millie with a number of side effects, but she battles through it with more grace & determination then I ever could! In the beginning months it impacted on school and having the energy to do the things she loves. Then a few weeks later the country went into lockdown and Millie started shielding from the outside world… including her extended family.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Both of the charities Millie has picked are doing amazing work to help children like her. And I hope to raise some funds for them as a way to say thank you, and to help others.[/p][p][br][/p][p]I know times are hard for a lot of us at the moment, but if you have any money to spare please do support… even if it’s just a pound![/p][p]Thank you x[/p]
