Team story

[p][span=color: #3366ff;]The total to create a memorial for George Thompson has now been reached, thanks to the amazing generosity of the public. If anyone would still like to donate, the funds will go to the RAF Association, which will help it to continue its support to the RAF family.[/span][/p][p][/p][p]Following the funeral in May of RAF veteran George Thompson, the Rotherham & District Branch of the RAF Association is raising money to create a lasting memorial to the airman.[/p] [p]Around 700 mourners attended the funeral of the WWII pilot with no family and few surviving friends following an appeal by the branch.[/p] [p]George flew night missions over jungles of Burma during the war, but he kept this quiet for many years. He was almost shot down over Morocco when he flew a Mosquito from the UK to what is now Bangladesh.[/p] [p]The RAF Association looks after the RAF family and this doesn’t necessarily end when someone passes away. The money we raise through this appeal will be used to fund a burial plot and headstone for George’s ashes. As so many people came to honour him at his funeral, we hope this will be a short fundraising campaign and that we will soon have enough for a fitting memorial.[/p]
