My story

[p]24th April 2018: After the hottest London Marathon in event history (24 degrees in parts!) with only warm water to quench our thirst, I'm delighted to update you that for me it was all over in 4 hours 33 minutes 9 seconds. As I hobble up & down the stairs as expected today, after huge celebrations on Sunday, just wanted to say another THANK YOU for the team effort in getting me around that track. Long may Guy's & St Thomas' continue their dedicated work in keeping us healthy. Whilst I can say there will be no more marathons, I look forward to supporting these wonderful hospitals again. [/p][p]9th April 2018: As Marathon Day is less than 2 weeks away I thought you may like some insight into my training journey. My Asics App tells me that’s over 350 miles and 60 runs – DONE! 13 days to stay healthy..[/p][p]There have been highs – YOU! Your support I am so grateful for. Every text, whatsapp, ‘like’, call, chat, soft drink, bowl of pasta, care package, book – has hugely helped! Your sponsorship has been incredibly generous, the team at Guys’ & St Thomas’ Hospitals are overcome with gratitude too.[/p][p]There have been lows – a 3 week stoppage with a suspected metatarsal fracture.. hitting The Wall during 20 miles.. running in minus 10 degrees.. the sprinkler in the face incident.. not to mention the dreaded ice baths and dodging cars.[/p][p]As I move into the final mental preparation, please know that I will be taking your support with me (tucked into my vaseline filled socks).. your words of encouragement I’ll be hanging on to through those 4 to 5 hours.. [/p][p]And to Gi – I ask you every day for something, but help me to the finish line and I’ll try not to ask for anything more.. (maybe!!).[/p][p]See you on Race Day, thanks again everyone![/p][p]#SpiritOfLondon [/p][p]xxxxxxx[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you for clicking on my link – Hello![/p][p]Most of you will know that I'd never call myself a runner and I'd rather just miss a train than step up the pace! However, the last few years have seen my family spend a lot of time at Guy’s Hospital where we experienced incredible kindness from the staff there, enough to stay with us for a lifetime. 2018 is the year we say Thank You to them, for their care but also their friendship.[/p][p]Guy’s & St Thomas’ rank among the best-known teaching hospitals worldwide. And with the help of Soph who will put me through my paces, I will run 26.2 miles (gulp!) to help support the patients, families and staff whom my family became so particularly fond of.[/p][p]All of us have stories about loved ones who win their battles, and loved ones who were taken too soon. Gi left a legacy behind her, she is the inspiration driving my marathon and this is a Thank You from her too. So, here is to the doctors who tirelessly dealt with us hangry and confused, to the porters who whizzed us around with the Arsenal bed socks and to the nurses who surprised Gi with a birthday cake and never turned us away. [/p][p]This is the first and last time I’ll be doing this so please dig deep. I am beyond grateful and very much welcome your love and support along the way![/p]
