Team story

[p]Hello! Thanks for visiting this page. As some of you may know, we (a group of 8 unruly middle aged men, 1 not so unruly woman and our misguided female driver!) will be taking on the adventure known as The Three Peaks Challenge (Scotland, England and Wales three largest mountains in under 24 hours).  Perhaps we should know better but we all felt we needed to do it soon, before we get too old and buggered! It also gives us an excuse to get fit(ish) - some of us need this more than others![/p][p]Whilst undertaking this misadventure, we thought it would be a good idea to raise a bit of cash for charity. This will be for the special care baby unit in Cardiff Heath hospital.[/p][p]As some of you will know, my wife and I had a son on 11th December 2011 who unfortunately died on 15th January 2012. Gethin was born at just under 27 weeks due to a severe case of preeclampsia but despite this he fought back extremely well and everything was looking good until he suffered necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) which he was unable to recover from. The five weeks we had with him will remain with us forever and we are so grateful that we got to know him. He will be with us always and I can assure you will be with me every step of this challenge.[/p][p]We would not have had these five weeks without the dedication and hard work of the staff at the special care baby unit in Cardiff hospital. They are simply amazing people and perform nothing short of miracles on a daily basis. It is not just medical care they provide, but also the emotional support and guidance which is equally important.[/p][p]"The charity was set up in 1981 with the aim of fundraising and also supporting parents who are experiencing the stressful time of the Special Care Baby unit at The University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff - now known as the Welsh Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Money raised is used not only for vital equipment, but also for the extra little touches, such as soft furnishings for the nurseries and parents areas, camera and printer for instant photo's to be given to parents, keepsake boxes, first diaries and nursery fittings, clothes etc. Anything to make the parents and siblings stay on the unit a bit easier. They also support parents financially with travelling or funeral costs and fund the Annual Remembrance Service for loved and lost babies."[/p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.  We all really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
