My story

[p]Gib or Bust Banger Rally 2018[/p][p]Jake and his dad John are taking in the 2018 Banger Rally challenge to help raise funds for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance. My name is Jake Gauld and I live in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland. My dad and I have entered a challenge to drive an 25-year-old car from Crieff to St. Austell in Cornwall, then on to Gibraltar via Spain & Portugal a distance of over 2000 miles.[/p][p]We are taking part in the 2018 Gibraltar or Bust, banger car rally challenge to raise funds for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance. So what is the Banger Rally Challenge and what do they have to do? The aim of the challenge is to drive from St Austell to Morocco…sounds fairly simple?[/p][p]However the catch is they have to do this drive in an old banger! Costing no more than £500 to be exact! http://www.bangerrallychallenge.co.uk/ Our randomly selected motor is a 1993 BMW 316i (E36) automatic, or alternatively, Jake's “München Express Automatisch.” Bought for the princely sum of £300 on Monday 27th August 2018.[/p][p]Leaving on the 30th of September 2018, we aim to finish the drive in 5 days on the 5th October however that is dependent on how the car survives. This is not a race! As well as nursing their car along the route, the teams will also be set challenges along the way to earn bonus points! This is a fantastic event and over the years has raised over £750,000 for charities. We have nominated SCAA as the sole beneficiary of all donations.[/p][p]Fiona Dennis of SCAA said “Hi John & Jake. I am delighted to have received notification from VirginMoneyGiving that you have set up an online page in aid of SCAA - it is great news, and thank you for pledging your support in this way! It is such an easy way for your friends and family to give simply and securely without you having to collect in money. In the meantime, thank you for your interest in supporting our life-saving charity. As we rely 100% on donations from the public, with no government-funding, it is fantastic to know that there are people like you ready to fundraise for us, and help us to continue to fly our paramedics to people in need. We are thrilled that Jake & John have chosen to take part and to help raise money for SCAA.”[/p][p]We will keep you updated on our progress in the lead up to and throughout the event. Please donate to SCAA and help us raise vital funds for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance. All donations make the difference. Thanks for reading, Jake & John Gauld.[/p][p]You can stay up to date with our challenge by following us on Twitter https://twitter.com/GauldJake[/p]
