[p]Can you please help me? I do hope so. I am trying to generate a little money for Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity https://mchcharity.org/ which support the excellent work of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. All monies raised will be used to bring comfort to patients battling for their lives on the COVID wards and to support the amazing staff, who risk their lives by caring for our loved ones.[/p][p]So, why am I doing this you may ask? Well here’s my story.......[/p][p]My name is Gilly, I am 80 years young, I live in my little apartment in Nantwich, Cheshire and I am a massive George Ezra fan (just so everyone knows)! I can only continue to live independently because of the wonderful carers and staff from the amazing local care provider In Safe Hands https://www.insafehandshealthcare.org.uk/ and of course, not forgetting my family and friends who also support me too! I consider myself to be a very lucky lady as I nearly lost my life to this dreadful COVID-19 virus in April this year! See video below of me me leaving the COVID ward at Leighton Hospital.[/p][p]https://www.facebook.com/MidCheshireNHS/videos/238134974066429/?vh=e[/p][p]During my month long stay in my local hospital (Leighton), I received excellent care from a whole team of dedicated NHS professionals who worked tirelessly every day to save my life as well as others! They are truly amazing people. They put the GREAT back into Great Britain. My local hospital has always been there for me during my life’s ups and downs, from a heart attack to having had a serious stroke back in 2016 which left me disabled and confined to a wheel chair. I therefore feel it’s time to give something back. [/p][p]Because I am a very positive and cheerful lady, I have decided to give myself a little challenge! Forget your biathlons and triathlons, I’m going to do a GILLY-ATHLON. This will comprise a 10 mile track session in my battery powered wheel chair around Oulton Park racing circuit on 10 August 2020 and will be supported by DSL Mobility https://www.dslmobility.co.uk/ who provided me with my "life changing" power chair.[/p][p]Once the track day is completed, I will then attempt a 100 metre swim using floatation aids (date to be arranged due to COVID restrictions) at Nantwich Swimming Baths https://everybody.org.uk/locations/nantwich/[/p][p]At both events the local reverend will be in attendance and there will be prayers and 2 minutes silence, to remember all those people (globally) who have lost their lives to this cruel virus![/p][p]COVID-19 unfortunately is here to stay for some time! This awful virus has already taken from us over 44,000 people in the UK alone, globally it has taken over 0.5 million people and the numbers are increasing day on day! [/p][p]So let’s not forget, for every person lost to COVID-19, there are devastated families and friends left behind having to come to terms with the loss of their loved one![/p][p]I have included below further information relating to my own personal journey fighting COVID.[/p][p]https://www.mcht.nhs.uk/information-for-visitors/coronavirus-covid-19-information/case-studies/gillian-bennett/[/p][p]I do hope you will donate a little something, it doesn’t matter how much! All monies will be greatly received and will be used where necessary to bring comfort to not only those patients who are battling this virus, but also those who’s life journey nears its end and for all the truly amazing staff who risk their lives every day to help patients recover and return home to live their lives! Go on, please donate a little something and make a huge difference. Thank you so much![/p][p]Don’t forget you too are amazing for donating! [/p][p]Love, Gill xx[/p][p]p.s. Once my challenge has been completed, I will post photos on this page for everyone to see and will let you all know of the total amount that was raised. Thank you once again![/p]
