My story

[lt]h4[gt][b]About the challenge[/b][lt]/h4[gt][p]I am raising money for the Sue Ryder Nettlebed Hospice by cycling 420 km/260 miles over 5 days through Death Valley in November 2013. It is not just cycling through a valley,it is one of the hottest places on Earth and also includes some major climbs through the steep mountain ranges that border it:[/p][ul][li]Daylight Pass (1,315 metres / 4,317 feet)[/li][li]Emigrant Pass (1,624 metres / 5,328 feet)[/li][li]Towne Pass (1,511 metres / 4,956 feet)[/li][li]Mountain Springs Summit (1,673 metres / 5,490 feet)[/li][/ul][p]In addition to the challenge, I have cycled the 'Ride for Ryder' (60 miles), Birmingham to Oxford (79 miles), Wiggle Stratford Sportive (68 miles), Two Counties (1 Sept, 67 miles) and the Wiggle Shropshire Mynd (64 miles in terrible conditions). Two final events (56 miles around Cannock Chase & 88.6 miles starting at Silverstone Racing Circuit) were ridden in October to finish up the training.[/p][p] 14 months ago, I had done no cycling for close to 20 years.[/p][p]I[span=font-size: 13px; line-height: 15px;] hope you can support Sue Ryder's Nettlebed Hospice by leaving a donation. It doesn't matter how much you donate, all money will help the hospice continue supporting people with life limiting illnesses. [/span]I really appreciate all your support![/p][p]If you want any more details, please drop me an message and follow my training progress at [span=background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);][url=http://www.strava.com/athletes/803517]http://www.strava.com/athletes/803517[/url][/span][/p][lt]h4[gt][span=font-size: 1em;]About the charity[/span][lt]/h4[gt][p]1 in 13 people are affected by an incurable illness at any given time. That means 4.8 million people across the UK right now are coping with the effects of incurable illness. While we all hope it won’t touch us personally, the sad reality is that it one day it could, and making provision for this growing need is tough. Whatever the illness, be it cancer, Parkinson’s or even brain injury ... our challenge remains the same. Not just to provide specialist medical care to ease pain and discomfort, but to also offer patients and their families’ real emotional support. This level of care comes at a price, a price that is becoming increasingly difficult to afford.[/p][p]By donating to my page it’s your chance to help Sue Ryder's Nettlebed Hospice continue providing incredible care for those with incurable illness.[/p][ul][li]£10 provides one hour of individual care from a trained carer. [/li][li]£25 means someone who has suffered a stroke can receive two home visits. [/li][li]£50 covers the cost of a day care or therapy session for somebody with dementia. [/li][li]£300 covers the daily cost of running a hospice bed[/li][li]£570 covers the cost of a highly trained nurse for a week providing care and support for patients and their families. [/li][li]£1000 pays for a clinical nurse specialist for a week working in the community offering individual and tailored support to patients in their own homes.[/li][/ul][lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden; top: 426px; left: -10000px;"[gt]Corporate Sponsors[lt]/div[gt][lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden; top: 426px; left: -10000px;"[gt]Thank you to Evolution Jobs for their donation to the fundraising.[lt]/div[gt][lt]h4[gt][span=font-size: 1em;]Corporate Sponsor[/span][lt]/h4[gt][p]Thank you to [b]Evolution Recruitment Solutions Ltd [/b]for their donation to the fundraising.[/p][lt]h4[gt]Special Thanks[lt]/h4[gt][p]I'd like to especially thank all my current and previous work colleagues for their donations - please continue to send them in.[/p]
