My story

[p]Hello, My name is Pushpanath 'Push' Krishnamurthy and I am going to complete an epic walk for climate justice (400 miles or one million steps) from London to Glasgow from 2nd October to 2nd November 2021 for the COP26 Climate talks. I am walking for climate justice and will enjoy the opportunity to share stories and inspiration together with the many people I will meet on the way. I am nearly 70 years old. I have walked for climate justice all over the world; from the UK to Copenhagan and across India with coffee farmers and so this walk is a continuation of all these walks for change.[/p][p]Climate change is already happening and can be seen in the world around us. Yet it is most often the poorest people who have done the least to create the problem who are suffering its worst impacts. [/p][p]I am inspired by Gandhi and walking to take action about this issue and encourage others to also take action. I believe we have the opportunity to work together and make a real difference. I also want to fundraise as I walk and encourage people who are able to donate as another way of taking action.[/p][p]I have chosen to fundraise for S.A.L.V.E. on my walk because their work means a lot to me. When I was a child we were initially wealthy, but later lost most of our wealth and I had to work on the streets to survive and help my family. I struggled to get my education and really value it so much and what it gave to my life. I later got a scholarship to study agriculture, but feel I learned how to be a storyteller from my time on the streets.[/p][p]During my work with Oxfam, I got the chance to go to Africa and it is now one of my spiritual homes and had a profound effect on me. I went to Jinja and talked with grandmothers there about how they were struggling with having to care for so many of their grandchildren and how climate change is impacting their ability to grow crops. I also remember a young girl walking with 20km of water and firewood for her family and she inspired me with her determination to walk with this heavy load so I also walked with a 20kg load when I did a previous walk from the UK to Copenhagen for the climate talks in 2009.[/p][p]So I thought I would like my walk to also help to fundraise for S.A.L.V.E. as they support children who are living and working on the streets and teaches them about climate change and sustainable agricultural skills on their journey back to a safe family home and education. These young people are the campaigners and storytellers of the future and we need to give them a chance to fulfill their potential. Any support you can give will be greatly appreciated.[/p][p][br][/p]
