My story

[p][span=color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;]Update Mon 27th April, 2015:[/span][/p][div=color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;][lt]div[gt]For those who had not heard (I did make it onto the UK ITV news on Sun 26th - though not looking my best 5 minutes after finishing a 26 mile race) ... I completed my fifth London Marathon yesterday in support of Cancer Research UK and my second attempting a Guinness World Record wearing the Cancer Research UK giant shoe mascot, #ShoeBarker. [span=font-size: 12.8000001907349px;]Last year I missed the record by 10 minutes and 7 seconds. This year I finished in 4hrs:34mins:18sec, missing it again - this time by just 4 minutes and 18 seconds. A small margin, but getting better![/span][/div] [lt]div[gt][lt]/div[gt][lt]div[gt]The margins for surviving cancer are getting better each year too, and helping to improve these margins is why run for Cancer Research UK.[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div[gt]I did break another record though. With your amazing support, I have smashed my personal fundraising record, raising almost £6,000 for the life-saving work that Cancer Research UK fund. Thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart. I am genuinely overwhelmed and truly grateful.[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div[gt]I also wanted to let everyone know where the money is going this year and the summary below talks about a ground-breaking project that it will help fund.[lt]/div[gt][lt]div[gt][lt]/div[gt] [lt]div[gt]62 years ago, a discovery was published which would change the world of science forever. Francis Crick and James Watson found the basis of all living structures - the double helix structure of the DNA molecule. Today, their ideas and approach to research lives on, in the hope that modern day scientists will make more amazing discoveries. [lt]/div[gt][lt]div[gt][lt]/div[gt] [lt]div[gt]The Francis Crick Institute in Kings Cross, London, is a world-leading centre of biomedical research and innovation that is due to open in 2016. It will house 1,200 leading scientists from a variety of disciplines all with the aim of tackling the major diseases we face, including cancer. Over 2,500 runners supporting Cancer Research UK took part in the London Marathon yesterday, and will have raised £2.5m, to help build the Francis Crick Institute.
