My story

[p][span=color: #ff0000;]New! [/span][/p][p]In appreciation of everyone's generosity, I am entering you all into a draw for a [span=color: #008000;]John Lewis[/span] Christmas Sparkle  Hamper worth £100. [/p][p][/p][p]The draw was held on 9 December 2013, drawn by Joy, one of the dedicated fundraisers at St John's Hospice.[/p][p][span=color: #ff0000;]The winner is "StillaYorkie" - one of the UK bio-diesel forum members. Well done! I have sent you a message, so that your hamper can be delivered.[/span][/p][p][/p][p]+++[/p][p]Job Done!  [/p][p]Many thanks for eveyone's support and encouragement, which made this a very enjoyable challenge, strangely enough! The 24 hours flew by, it felt like only 6 hours, which surprised me.[/p][p]Total mileage was 326.6. The cold small hours forced me to stop and wrap up in a blanket for 90 minutes, as I couldn't seem to create enough effort to raise my temperature (brain was saying "SLEEP!!!")  and I could barely control the bike due to shivering. Wrapped up like Michelin man until 7am.[/p][p]I should have taken more warm clothing, and I should have arranged for hot drinks/hot food through the night - lesson learned.[/p][p]I was fuelled mainly on semi-skimmed milk and coca-cola, with an occasional banana and occasional handful of dates and a little biltong. Dates are much more difficult to eat when riding a bike! Too sticky and kept clogging my throat.[/p][p]Graphs of speed, heart rate and air temperature during the ride are further down the page...[/p][p]========================[/p][p]Please would you help me to raise funds for Sue Ryder Hospice in Moggerhanger?[/p][p]They provide compassionate care for people with end-of-life conditions, and support for their families.[/p][p]I was originally taking part as a solo rider in the Silverstone 24 Hour Cycling Grand Prix from 14 to 15 September, with a target of 366 miles, but this has now been cancelled (as of 26 July 2013) [/p][p]I will now cycle the greatest distance I can in one day around a local Time Trial course, on public roads. (I'll celebrate my 52nd birthday during the event)[/p][p][lt]img title="Graham Laming about to start the 24 hour cycle ride for Sue Ryder" src="http://www.book-to-ride.com/sue_ryder_4.jpg" alt="Start of the 24 hour bike ride" width="378" height="284" /[gt][/p][lt]div class="msg"[gt]I had set myself a personal target of 366 miles or 586 km in a day on the Silverstone circuit. This equates to doing the London to Brighton bike ride more than 6 times. I shall carry Garmin sat-nav kit to record the ride as proof of riding. [lt]br /[gt] [lt]br /[gt] The plan is to raise at least £2500 for Sue Ryder, so please if, you[lt]br /[gt] can, a donation, no matter how small, would be gratefully received.[lt]/div[gt][lt]div class="msg"[gt]There is no shame in going well above the target![lt]/div[gt][lt]div class="msg"[gt][lt]br /[gt] Thanks in anticipation![lt]/div[gt][lt]div class="msg"[gt]Graham [lt]/div[gt][lt]div class="msg"[gt]Course details http://www.book-to-ride.com/24hrs.pdf[lt]/div[gt][lt]div class="msg"[gt][span=color: #ff6600;][lt]span style="color: #0000ff;"[gt][lt]br /[gt][/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/div[gt][lt]br /[gt][p][lt]img title="Graham passing through Cardington on his 24 hour cycle ride" src="http://www.book-to-ride.com/sue_ryder_2.jpg" alt="Graham passing through Cardington on his 24 hour cycle ride" width="429" height="154" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p]Strava page http://www.strava.com/activities/82642407[/p][p][/p][p]Videos:[/p][p]A short video which went on much the same as this for most of a day.[lt]br /[gt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n7Q8povZrU&feature=share&list=UUIdUR_mdBqwjH2f8Jw4Y0-g[/p][p][/p][p]A break at 102 miles to restock on food, with my son Jan helping out...[lt]br /[gt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOoeFIr1ey0&feature=share&list=UUIdUR_mdBqwjH2f8Jw4Y0-g[/p][p][/p][p]My speed, heart rate and the air temperature throughout the 326 mile event.
