My story

[p]Hello folks, [/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Job done - thanks so much for everyone's support! Final distance cycled  was 558.36 km or 347 miles in one day. [/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Particular thanks go to the generosity of all donors, and for supporters Jan and Hanna, to Rachel and Kevan, Andy, Patrick, Justin, Melly, Gill, Cathy, Jim, Simon, Mike, the Course family and the many others, who I know were there, but I couldn't identify due to them wearing goggles and helmets, and due to my fatigue and poor memory! [/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Your encouragement and generosity helped immensely, all of you. [/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Thanks also to all the residents along the route who were there shouting support, the young person in Ickwell enthusiastically ringing the bell on their trike  - all went to make it a memorable and successful event.  [/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Donations can be made up until 11 July when Sue Ryder will make the draw for a winner. Thanks again! - Graham[/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="color: #ff6600;"[gt]The draw was made at lunchtime on 14 July, drawn by Kim Munns of St John's hospice - thank you Kim. The lucky winner is [lt]span style="color: #ff0000;"[gt]Becky of Langford[/span] - get in touch and we will send your £100 vouchers.[lt]/span[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p]I am doing another 24 hour bike ride for Sue Ryder hospices and hope you might able to afford a small donation.  Good news! ... as a donor, you stand a [span=text-decoration: underline;]really[/span] good chance of winning one of several very nice gifts, of your choice, each worth £100, generously donated to me, to offer as an added incentive to attract sponsors just for this event! You could make a healthy profit on your donation![/p][p]Your donation will help ensure that Sue Ryder can continue to offer hospice and at-home care of the highest standards to people with terminal conditions. They REALLY do great work.[/p][p]Please read on ...[/p][p][span=color: #000000;][lt]img title="Sue Ryder - Incredible care for incurable illness" src="http://www.book-to-ride.com/sue_ryder_motto.jpg" alt="Sue Ryder - Incredible care for incurable illness" width="428" height="262" /[gt][/span][/p][p]My target is to cycle 558 km in a day. Last year, when I did the event for the first time, I managed 522km, on my 52nd birthday. [/p][p][span=background-color: #ffff99;]If you are a tax payer, please don't forget to gift aid your donation. This means that the government will donate an extra 25% to St John's Hospice, with no extra cost to you.[/span][/p][p][/p][p]Pictures and video taken in Cardington, during last year's event...[/p][p][lt]img title="Passing through Cardington" src="http://www.book-to-ride.com/sue_ryder_2.jpg" alt="Passing through Cardington" width="429" height="154" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p]The course is quite hilly and goes from Cardington to Old Warden, up Hillfoot. Then to Ickwell, Northill, then up Mox Hill and over to Cople, to rejoin the loop at Cardington. 31 times round that 18km loop is my target.[/p][p]The hill climbs add up to 13 000 feet in a day, or 4000m, which is more than the the height gain from base camp to the summit of Everest. And then descending all the way back again, in the same day. Whilst cycling 558 km.[/p][p]The hilly route[/p][p][lt]img title="The route for the 24 hour charity cycle event" src="http://www.book-to-ride.com/24route.jpg" alt="The route for the 24 hour charity cycle event" width="426" height="276" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p]I am my own mechanic, carrying important spares and tools with me and will arrange my own food and drink throughout the ride.[/p][p]I will again record the event on my Garmin Sat-Nav as proof of what I manage to achieve by the end of the 24 hrs.[/p][p][span=color: #ff0000;]Something in it for you, I hope![/span][lt]br /[gt]As I mentioned at the beginning, you stand a very good chance of winning a generous prize, and not only that, you can choose which prize would suit you best![/p][p]1. £100 family dinner discount at local restaurant of your choice[lt]br /[gt]2. Garden Centre vouchers worth £100[lt]br /[gt]3. Health Spa vouchers worth £100[lt]br /[gt]4. DIY Centre vouchers worth £100[lt]br /[gt]5. Luxury gift hamper worth £100[lt]br /[gt]6. £100 equiv. cash prize (for donors outside UK)[/p][p]One prize per winner.  [/p][p]Please mention in your message your preference of prize.[lt]br /[gt]If you wish to be excluded from the draw, please write 'Exclude'[lt]br /[gt][/p][p]The winner will be drawn at random out of a hat of names of all donors on this page, by a member of staff of St John's Hospice fundraising team. [/p][p]The winner will be announced on this page after the draw, so please come back to see if you were the lucky one![/p][p]If a winner is not drawn, for example if the winning donor is Anonymous, £100 will be donated to Sue Rider in lieu.[/p][p]Good luck, and thanks again for helping to ensure the good work of Sue Ryder Care can continue :-)[/p][p][lt]img title="My signature" src="http://www.london-electronics.com/sign_graham_blue.jpg" alt="My signature" width="155" height="97" /[gt][/p][p]Graham[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
