Team story

[p]What’s going on? In a nutshell, we’re a group of ladies, joined by a couple of slightly bemused men, who thought we would love to sleep out in a churchyard in Burton On Trent one cold, foggy and (we expect) wet November night. [/p][p]It sounded like a really great idea at the time - mid-July heatwave.[/p][p]How did this happen? As members of the LoveLBG network group we heard the dedicated Paula Senior talk about the amazing work the YMCA do to help people who really need just a hand or two to get them back on their feet and off the streets. Every year Paula and team organise a Sleepout to raise much needed funds - with the sensible opting into a gentle first Sleepout experience at the Pirelli Stadium. [/p][p]Someone - no names! - possibly overwhelmed by the heat, announced that not only would we take part, we would go EXTREME, first time out and sleep in St Modwen’s churchyard. We’ve signed up, we’ve reserved our places - and we’ve encouraged a few more to join the team (haha). [/p][p]So now it’s down to you. We need you to donate a few pennies, or even a pound or two, to help us raise funds to support the fantastic YMCA. Without your donations - well, we’re just a bunch of MadOnes sleeping in a cold churchyard in November for no apparent reason.[/p][p]Thank you in advance for your time, support and your hard earned cash.[/p][p]A word from the YMCA:[/p][p]"At Burton YMCA we believe that everyone deserves a place to call home and to be supported in times of crisis.[/p][p]We are an independent Christian Charity committed to helping people at times of need, regardless of gender, race, ability or faith.[/p][p]We are committed to providing a supportive and safe environment for those who are homeless with 71 rooms over 3 sites. As well as accommodation we provide practical and emotional support so that clients can address their past and learn practical skills for the future.[/p][p]We run a food bank issuing emergency food to those in crisis and have four stores providing affordable furniture for families across Staffordshire and Derbyshire."[/p]
