Team story

[p]Be an Angel Challenge[/p][p]Well we did it, and doubled our target! On Saturday 24 November a team of 44 volunteers bravely climbed the Cathedral tower to raise money for Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy (GTCC) in aid of our 10th Anniversary Appeal: ‘Be an Angel’. In total we were aiming to clock up at least 50,000 steps. This figure represents the number of people the Street Angels have helped in their first 10 years of operation, and the number of bottles which have been picked up in the same period! We are delighted to announce that we collectively achieved 200 ascents (over 100,000 steps) in the time available, spurred on by so much support from far and wide. With huge thanks to the fabulous team of people who took part and our generous sponsors. [/p][p]Rod Boreham clocked up the greatest number of ascents (13) and Rachel Guilford was the fastest - congratulations to all our climbers![/p][p]Canon Rod Boreham, Chaplain[/p][p]Andrew Watson, Bishop of Guildford[/p][p]Councillor Mike Parsons, Mayor of Guildford[/p][p]Mrs Jean Parsons, Mayoress[/p][p]Lady Elizabeth Toulson, supporter[/p][p]Paul Smith, Canon Liturgist, Guildford Cathedral[/p][p]Chris Britton, Chairman[/p][p]Fiona Ford, Guildford Street Angel Co-ordinator[/p][p]Rachel Guilford, Community Angel Co-ordinator[/p][p]Mike Gercke, Board member[/p][p]Carolyn Gercke, supporter[/p][p]Revd Canon Andrew Norman, Board member[/p][p]Revd Philip Jones, Board member[/p][p]Mike Smith, Street Angel volunteer[/p][p]Denise Stafford, Street Angel volunteer[/p][p]Louise Kenyon, supporter[/p][p]Alice Kenyon, supporter[/p][p]Liv Patullo, Experience Guildford[/p][p]Sasha Atkins, Experience Guildford[/p][p]Gill Coleman, supporter [/p][p]Phil Atkins, supporter[/p][p]Nicky Spence, Community Angel[/p][p]Carol King, Community Angel[/p][p]Ray Dunnett, Street Angel[/p][p]Wendy Dunnett, Street Angel[/p][p]Annie Cox, Street Angel[/p][p]Maura Savage, supporter[/p][p]Annelise Wilkinson, supporter[/p][p]Ian Kenyon, supporter[/p][p]Ros Barham, Street Angel[/p][p]James Hanson, Street Angel[/p][p]Tim Judson, Community Angel[/p][p]Eleanor Jackson, Community Angel[/p][p]Alastair Anderson, Street Angel[/p][p]Peter Wilkinson, Street Angel[/p][p]Tine Wilkinson, supporter[/p][p]Josie Ford, supporter [/p][p]Jack Taylor, supporter[/p][p]Jaanus Laikman, supporter[/p][p]Francis Kenyon, supporter[/p][p]Graham Stott, Street Angel[/p][p]Daniel Mitchell, supporter[/p][p]Paul Mitchell, supporter[/p][p]Cilla Britton, supporter[/p][p][br][/p][p]About GTCC[/p][p]GTCC operates three projects with the help of 130 volunteers. The well-established award-winning Guildford Street Angels is the friendly patrol for the town’s night-time economy. Every Friday and Saturday night, from 11pm – 4am, teams of volunteers serve some 5000 people a year, looking out for anyone in need – without judgement. The Street Angels provide a calming presence to help avoid conflict and are proud that the police, nightclub doormen, paramedics and CCTV operators value their contribution to the safety of local streets, helping our town win the coveted Purple Flag award. Our second project, Community Angels, is much newer, and is designed to tackle loneliness in the home, by connecting vulnerable people within the communities in which they live. Our third project is providing volunteer Chaplains to all those who work in the town centre. [/p][p]The Chaplaincy’s projects costs over £80,000 a year to run, any donations to support their work are much appreciated.[/p][p]To read more about the work of GTCC, please see our website: https://gtcc.org.uk/[/p]
