My story

[p]Thanks for visiting my page. A couple of years ago I completed my first half marathon and made a promise to myself and some friends that I'd step up and do the big one some time. Turning 30 this year seemed like the appropriate catalyst to spur me on to take up this challenge. So this year I'll be running the London Marathon in April. [/p][p][/p] [p]I want to use the opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two charities that are very close to my heart. Every penny you can spare will inspire me in every day of my training and in each of the 26 miles 385 yards of pain on Sunday 13th April![/p][p][/p][p]The first charity is Pancreatic Cancer Research. Two years ago a good friend of mine, Simon Fenn, became a victim of this brutal form of cancer. He was the strongest and fittest athlete I've ever known in person - he completed three Iron Man competitions and had a PB marathon time of 3 hours and 9 minutes (don't any of you be expecting that from me!) The illness struck him and took him far too young. Pancreatic cancer suffers greatly from a lack of research and awareness - survival rates have remained at 3% for the last 40 years. So Pancreatic Cancer Research is a charity which can really make a difference. Some of you will be aware of the charity set up in Simon's name, Team Zeemon, which raises money for Pancreatic Cancer Research. You can find out more about it here: www.teamzeemon.org.uk[/p][p][/p][p]The second charity I'll be running for is Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. This charity is a leader in its field and has been working hard to beat blood cancer for 50 years. My mother worked as a haematologist at Birmingham Children's Hospital and so my family and I have always been fully aware of the horrible reality of blood cancers, particularly in children, and of the great help that this charity can provide. [/p][p][/p][p]Everything I raise will be split down the middle, 50/50 and go straight to the charities. I know that times are tough and money is tight sometimes, but that means that charities need your money more than ever. Any amount you can afford will be a huge help to the brilliant work they do. And surely 26 miles of blisters, tears and nipple chaffing are worth a few of your pennies. [/p][p][/p][p]Thank you so much for taking the time to visit the page and thank you for your donations and your support. I'll let you know how I get on! [/p] [lt]br /[gt][p][/p][p][/p]
