My story

[p]  [lt]img style="vertical-align: baseline;" src="http://i.imgur.com/5zEHAQ3.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="330" /[gt][/p][p]On the 22[sup]nd[/sup] October a team of submariners and submariner trainees from HMS Sultan will be competing in the “Simplyhealth Great South Run” in order to raise money for “The Royal British Legion” and “The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity”.[/p] [p]The team have chosen to compete in the run as an act of remembrance to ensures that no-one is forgotten who has suffered or died in war with focus on the sacrifices made by the men of the Submarine Service.[/p] [p]The run is a 10 mile route which the team will complete carrying a 4m replica submarine estimated to weight 50Kg. The replica is currently being built at HMS Sultans workshops.[/p] [p]The designs can be seen below and we will post update showing the progress of the build.[/p] [p]The money raised will be donated to:[/p] [lt]h3[gt]The Royal British Legion: [lt]/h3[gt][p]Who help members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families all year round. They also campaign to improve their lives, organise the Poppy Appeal and remember the fallen.[/p] [lt]h3[gt]The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity: [lt]/h3[gt][p]Operates with the aim to raise and deliver resources, working with others, to provide the best support to serving and former members of the naval service and their families. RNRMC have funded projects and facilities that boost morale for those who serve today and distribute millions of pounds annually to military charities which care for the children, families and veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.[/p] [p]This event is being done as an act of remembrance by HMS Sultan’s Submarines Annual Remembrance Parade in London by the team and many others from HMS Sultan.[/p][lt]h2[gt]Update - 9th October 2017[lt]/h2[gt][p]The Construction of the boat is well under way with the skeleton nearing completion. The skeleton was constructed using cross sections at equal intervals.[/p][p]These were then mounted on a central spar in order to give the boat structure.[/p][p]Some images of the build can be seen bellow.[/p][p][/p][p][lt]img style="vertical-align: baseline;" src="http://i.imgur.com/MvzL69X.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="160" /[gt]   [lt]img style="vertical-align: baseline;" src="http://i.imgur.com/jYxtU1S.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="160" /[gt]   [lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/acUdqn0.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="160" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][lt]img style="vertical-align: baseline;" src="http://i.imgur.com/PmipCcB.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="533" /[gt][/p][p][/p][lt]h2[gt]Update - 11th October 2017[lt]/h2[gt][p]We are begining to put the hull on the skeleton in the form of aluminium sheeting. Which you can see the team mounting on the photos below. The construction of the fore and aft planes. As you can see below we are making some great progress.[/p][p][lt]img style="vertical-align: baseline;" src="http://i.imgur.com/dX3wjvK.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="160" /[gt]   [lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/OvjnLwH.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="160" /[gt] \ [lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/xkRl43k.jpg" alt="" width="90" height="160" /[gt][/p][p][/p][lt]h2[gt]Update - 23rd October 2017[lt]/h2[gt][p]It has been quite a week for the team. The construction of the boat has carried on at an amazing pace to have it ready for the race. Below you can see some of the final progress photos of the build as well as the final product.[/p][p][/p][p][lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/iLmna1P.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="711" /[gt][/p][p][lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/6MRT0pA.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="300" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p]With a coating of Stealth Black paint the submarine was ready for the race. This left the team ready to prepare for the race. This involved choosing a rig for the event. The team including runner, builders and organisers can be seen below at HMS Sultans main gate.[/p][p][lt]img src="http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/-/media/royal-navy-responsive/images/news/where-we-are/training-establishments/sultan/171017-submariners-dig-deep-to-complete-special-challenge/171017-submariners-challenge-3.jpg?mh=447&mw=980&thn=0&hash=33BCBF87531B6E1F760718CF8925481C5B010193" alt="" width="400" height="267" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p]With the day of the race upon us the team did not miss the chance to get a few photos, some of which can be seen below.[/p][p][lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/FAocuke.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="533" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p]On the start line.[/p][p][lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/GhjEPUA.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="300" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p]And with that the team was off to a running start. Running at the back of the Green wave with many of the other novelty acts we wasted no time in gaining ground, picking each of our targets and taking the ground in very quick succession. [/p][p]These included a Police team, Dinosaurs, Ninja Turtles, A Bride and a Minion.[/p][p][lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/MZ6aAHT.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="300" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p][lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/9Ny0ssT.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="182" /[gt]      [lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/01S8qXI.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="182" /[gt]     [lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/MPHdbiS.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="182" /[gt][/p][p]The team were very enthusiastic throughout the race keeping a solid pace and sticking together as a team as you can see the pictures above.[/p][p]Below is the team on their final sprint to the finish line.[/p][p][lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/ELvUbob.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="300" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p]and here they can be seen a few moments later.[/p][p][lt]img src="http://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/22789057_1754418847936832_743268090391828402_n.jpg?oh=8ef6e87b9f4f58bbc49d1c3b06440d37&oe=5AAF702C" alt="" width="400" height="266" /[gt][/p][p][/p][p][lt]img src="http://i.imgur.com/EIjaU3I.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="300" /[gt][/p][p][/p][lt]h2[gt]Vote of Thanks[lt]/h2[gt][p]We would like to thank everyone that has made this run possible. This include: The Command Team from HMS Sultan, The build team and workshop instructors who constructed the submarine without whom we would just be normal runners, The Greatsouth Run team for organising the event, RNRMC and the Royal British Legion for all the great work that they do and finally everyone who has donated. Without all these people this run would not have been possible.[/p][p][/p][p][lt]img src="http://www.rblcdn.co.uk/media/2578/poppy_in_wheat_field_1170x461.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="158" /[gt][/p][lt]h2[gt]Lest We Forget[lt]/h2[gt]
