My story

[p]I am running the London Marathon for Refugee Support Network, a small but growing charity who help refugee children and young people build more hopeful futures.[/p][p]I've chosen to run for RSN because of the work they have done to support so many people, including members of my family. I’m raising awareness and funds because since my two foster brothers arrived from Afghanistan as asylum-seeking children, I have seen in my own home how RSN help make life easier for young people fleeing war and persecution. [/p][p]Running a fantastic event like the London Marathon will be an incredible experience, made better knowing I will be helping raise money for a fantastic cause.[/p][p]Specifically, RSN is a growing charity that enables young refugees to build more hopeful futures through education. RSN matches up young refugees with volunteer mentors to help them move forward in education, grow in confidence and become more integrated in their local communities. Alongside providing specialist advice, guidance and psychosocial support for those who face significant barriers to progression and leadership opportunities to boost individuals’ confidence and connections, RSN also runs training sessions for external front-line staff and conducts research with policy makers and international agencies to combat the root causes of the challenges young refugees face. [/p][p]It’s clear to me that any contribution will make a significant difference to the lives of the young people RSN works with. Please consider making a donation. [/p][p]- £50 would facilitate a set of three one-to-one mentoring sessions for an isolated young person, in which specific barriers to progression can be identified and overcome.[/p][p]- £5 would pay for travel expenses for a young person attending a one-to-one session.[/p][p]- £20 allows a specialist support worker to accompany a young person to a meeting with a doctor or lawyer that they would struggle to face alone.[/p][p]- £40 would pay for a training session for 15 new educational mentors.[/p][p]- £100 helps RSN provide a safe, welcoming environment for young people at 7 hubs across the country. [/p][p]A marathon is a big challenge for me, so spread the word! I’ll make sure to update this page with any big milestones. Thank you![/p][p][br][/p]
