My story

[p]For over five years the villagers of Hanslope, Milton Keynes have been raising money to restore their historic Church Bells in St James the Great so that they can be rung for future generations as they have been for at least the last 400 years. The bells need to be rehung in a new bell frame installed in a strengthened Church Tower. The bells need repairs and re-tuning. All eight bells have been removed and are currently at the Bell Foundry. The total cost of the project exceeds £100,000 and we need to have raise the final £16,500 before the bells are ready to be rehung in the Autumn.[/p][p]Hanslope Open Gardens was planned as a major fundraiser for June 2020 but the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown meant this event had to be cancelled. Not wishing to be beaten by “The Virus” the gardeners of Hanslope (and beyond) have been busy photographing their gardens for the last two months and the gardens will be available for view as videos on-line from mid-July until the Autumn 2020 Click this LINK: Hanslope Virtual Open Gardens .[/p][p]There are eight bells – the oldest was made in 1626, is 109.2cm diameter and weighs 762Kg. Full information on the bells can be found at http://www.mkheritage.co.uk/hdhs/church/images/ChurchBooklet.pdf (page24)[/p][p]Our real Open Gardens event would have raised a substantial sum towards our appeal, help us to match or exceed this and keep our wonderful bells ringing for centuries to come. Thank You.[/p]

A brilliant display of gardens in Hanslope and Castlethorpe. It extended our summer and enabled us to see a selection of familiar and unusual plants. Thank you to all the contributors and John for making The Virtual Film.
