Team story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our Virgin Money Giving fundraising page.

On the 3rd of September 2011 the three of us, John, Kate and David (all Harrieses) will set off on our bikes to cycle the length of Wales, from Holyhead to Cardiff, in order to raise funds for three charities: Beacon of Hope, Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales and Age Cymru. It is also a celebration of retirement for David and John.

The charities

The Beacon of Hope - Ffagl Gobaith charity provides practical and nursing support to people with terminal and life limiting illness in Ceredigion, South Gwynedd and West Powys.

Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales in Cardiff provides specialist physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy to children all over Wales who have cerebral palsy.

Age Cymru is the leading charity for all older people in Wales; through campaigns, research and fundraising it aims to build a better life for older people.

We are most grateful to you for any financial support you can provide for these charities.

Our challenge: the cycle route, Lon Las Cymru

Our challenge is to cycle, in six days, the 400 km from Holyhead to Cardiff along the Sustrans route, Lon Las Cymru. Opened in 1995, this route is regarded as one of the toughest of all the long distance routes on the National Cycle Network. It takes in three mountain ranges and some spectacular scenery. While the route starts fairly gently on the quiet rural lanes of Anglesey, some significant challenges lie ahead with long, steep climbs across the Cambrian Mountains and a cumulative ascent of 5000m from north to south. The unpredictable Welsh weather will no doubt add some more spice to the experience!

Making your donation

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

We would be delighted if you would take a minute or two to donate as much or as little as you wish. You may then wish to pass on our details to other potential sponsors.

Thank you very much

John, Kate and David
