My story

[p]My name is Harriet Wright and I am the organiser of the 1000km to be covered by 101 people in 100 hours challenge in support of Save The Children's Yemen Appeal. 101 amazing volunteers from 11 different countries will each have an hour time slot to run as far as they can to contribute towards the 1001km goal. The challenge will begin at 14:00 GMT Wednesday 1st July and will finish at 17:00 Sunday 5th July. The time slots will be pulled out of the hat this weekend and many of our unlucky runners will be running through the night.[/p][p]I have been overwhelmed by the support I have received. This challenge was initially a 48 hour challenge but over 24 hours we have had enough volunteers for the event to be run over a 100 hours.[/p][p]All donations will be going directly to Save The Children's Yemen Appeal and the fundraising guidance I have received form the charity has been amazing. The situation in Yemen has completely broken my heart and it was about time I practiced what I preached and tried to make a difference. [/p][p]Children in Yemen are growing up in the worlds worst humanitarian crises and yet many of us are unaware of the situation due to a lack of coverage by the media.[/p][p]Five years of war has collapsed Yemen's health system and five years of war has left them defenceless against coronavirus. The country was already fighting Cholera, famine and war and prior to coronavirus 12 million children in Yemen was already in danger and more 24 million Yemenis - 80% of the population was in need of humanitarian assistance.[/p][p]Countries donating resources have been squeezed by the pandemic, and are now cutting their funding during this critical time. Save The Children is the largest aid organisation in Yemen and any donations you could spare however small would help towards saving so many lives. A link to their website has been included below.[/p][p]https://www.savethechildren.org/us/what-we-do/where-we-work/greater-middle-east-eurasia/yemen[/p][p]There has been reports that coronavirus may delete Yemen from maps all over the world and hopefully through this event we can do our little bit to save as many people as possible and to spread awareness of the tragic state of Yemen. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you for your kind donations.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Harriet Wright [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
