My story

[p]In September 2020 (deferred from April due to Coronavirus), we are both taking part in the Marathon Des Sables, in aid of the fantastic charity 'Walking With The Wounded'. [/p][p]For those of you who don't know, the MDS is a 251km ultra-marathon, equivalent to 6 full marathons run over 6 days in the Sahara Desert. The longest day is a double-marathon, the shortest a single, over extremely rugged terrain, from huge sand dunes and jebels to loose, rocky scrub-land and salt pans. The heat will inevitably add to the fatigue, with the daytime temperature likely to be around 35 or even 40 degrees Celsius. You are required to carry all of your own equipment on your back, including food for the full 7 days, although water is provided and rationed each morning. You do not quite sleep under the stars, but the open sided canvas tents and bare sandy floor leave little beyond to the imagination. [/p][p]We will be raising money for Walking With The Wounded. Established in 2010, WWTW supports a pathway for vulnerable veterans to reintegrate into society and sustain their independence. The charity supports those who are physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged by their service. Future employment is at the heart of this and provides a sustainable future for them and their families. With a combined 13 years' army service between us, this is a charity that is close to our hearts.[/p][p]Anything you can give, however small, will make a huge difference. And if you are kind enough to sponsor us, please note the MdS has been described as a “brutal” event. So there definitely will be blood, sweat and tears for every penny donated! Oh, and it will inevitably become a race, including with our ruthlessly fit but older brother, Peter (who was responsible for press ganging us into this in the first place)...[/p][p]Thank you,[/p][p]Harry & Toby[/p]
