Team story

[p]Harry is 8 years old and has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This is a cruel muscle wasting condition. Harry will stop walking and end up wheelchair bound by the time he is 10 years old. The disease continues to spread to the upper body and Harry will need to be ventilated to assist with his breathing. The condition is life limiting and at present there is no treatment or cure.[/p][p]This year Gareth and I have decided to take part in the Duchenne Dash. We will be cycling over 300km from London to Paris in 24 hours. This will involve commitment to training rides together for several months and real determination especially for me as I’ve not rode a bike since my childhood.[/p][p]This year is a huge year for Duchenne UK an amazing charity who are moving mountains to try to find a cure. Gareth and I would like to raise money for them to make sure they don't have to say no to any piece of research, clinical trial or project in getting treatments to this generation living with Duchenne. We want to help this community in anyway we can and feel this is how we can.[/p][p]As our legs ache and will be tired on our bikes doing this epic challenge we will think of Harry and boys like him. Our tired muscles will recover but their's will not and will just continue to weaken. Harry has never been able to ride a bike. As Harry is getting older the reality of this disease is more apparent. We have had to move to a more suitable property and are currently getting adaptations planning for Harry’s future and how we will have to eventually give him 24hr care. We try not to think about this but this is the reality of the disease if a treatment isn’t found. [/p][p]If you can support Gareth and I by donating any amount of money we would be extremely grateful.[/p][p]Thank you xxx[/p][p][br][/p]
