My story

[p]In January 2017 we had a compassionate induction when we learned that our daughter, Luna, had a very poor prognosis at 18 weeks gestation. She would likely die before birth, but most definitely at birth if she managed to make it full term. We took the heart breaking decision to end the pregnancy. The ordeal was very traumatic. We had an excellent bereavement midwife, who visited the house every week for weeks after losing Luna, but she wasn’t a therapist/counsellor. She was the one who suggested contacting Child Bereavement UK for specialist help. Around 4 months after Luna died, we began our 1:1 session’s with Sue at CBUK. I can still vividly remember our first session and how I felt afterwards: I sobbed and sobbed in the car park. It was a mixture of grief for Luna, that we were having to have counselling sessions to learn how to deal with her death and relief that we were being heard by someone who understood. More than 2 years after Luna’s death, we are still seeing Sue monthly. [/p][p]Sue has helped us to navigate our individual grief and how that effect’s us as a couple and family. She’s acted as a mediator when our pain and anger have boiled over, sometimes meaning we lash out at each other. She’s guided gently and listened compassionately. Without her help, I fear where we may have ended up. We had another miscarriage last summer. Just when we we’re thinking that we may not need our CBUK sessions anymore, another tragedy occurred. Another baby gone. Sue has been there, not only in helping us to process our grief in losing Luna, but with trying to find our way forward as a family. When things haven’t worked out, she’s been there to help us cope with the fallout of this too.[/p][p]Child Bereavement UK helps families with any type of baby or child loss, at any time. It doesn’t matter if this death occurred 2 months or 20 years ago. The sessions are unlimited in number…that’s pretty special, not many bereavement charities can do this. It’s with donations made that they can offer this unlimited help. Sadly, many families are affected by baby and child loss, but that doesn’t mean they have to suffer alone, without specialist help. They have been a cornerstone in our grief journey and that’s why I wanted to take on this pretty massive challenge for them (oh God, what have I done!). Any amount of money is greatly appreciated. Thank you.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Peace, love and light – to the moon and back,[/p][p]Hayley, Charlie, Benjamin and Luna[/p]
