Team story

[p]Welcome to the Heart Warriors Virgin Money Fundraising Page![/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to read our story and as to why we have chosen to fundraise for the charity Max’s Foundation. [/p][p]Max’s foundation was set up in 2016 by Max’s parents Dave and Shira Schiller along with his sister Molly after Max sadly passed away in January 2015. Max had an undetected heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy - thickening of the heart muscle wall, Max was just 10 years old. [/p][p]Their lives have been shattered and changed forever because of this condition and the fact that it was unable to be detected. [/p][p]The family set up Max’s Foundation as a lasting legacy to Max.[/p][p]Their aim is to fund research into the detection of heart conditions in pre-adolescent children and to help support those who are affected. [/p][p]Their hope is through greater understanding of the condition, young lives can be saved and no other families lives need be shattered - maxsfoundation.org.uk[/p][p]Our Heart Warriors team members Kayleigh and her husband Daniel and daughter Georgina chose to fundraise for Max’s Foundation after welcoming in to their family a baby boy called Henry on the 14th August 2016.[/p][p]At 2 days old Henry was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy after an ECG and Echocardiogram was under taken due to Henry suffering with fetal Supraventricular Tachycardia. Henry spent 3 weeks in newborn intensive care, once his SVT was under control he was allowed to go home on medication to help control his heart arrhythmia. [/p][p]At 3 months old Henry’s care was transferred to a specialist team at Great Ormond Street Hospital under the care of Dr Jaun Pablo Kaski. Dr Kaski is a consultant paediatric cardiologist and the lead of the inherited cardiovascular diseases unit. He is also the Ambassador of Max’s Foundation. [/p][p]After reading about Max’s Foundation Daniel and Kayleigh knew that they wanted to help raise money for the charity any way they could, after feeling heart broken by what had happened to Max.[/p][p]Kayleigh and Daniel had the privilege of meeting Dave and Shira in March 2018. They talked about how they found out about the charity and why they chose to fundraise for them, they talked about Henry and how they found out about his diagnosis, they then had the privilege to listen as they spoke about their beautiful son Max, shown pictures of him and told about all the things he loved to do. Kayleigh and Daniel, in their own words “meeting Dave and Shira was a complete honour, they are truly wonderful and inspirational people and we feel so proud to be fundraising and supporting their charity”. [/p][p]The Heart Warriors are made up of 25 people - Kayleigh, Daniel, Josie, Paige, Lizzie, John, Natalie, Emily W, Jo, Nick, Robert, Terry, Tina, David, Emily O, Chrissie, Thane, Sue, Richard, Martin, Lucie, Teresa, Jo, Matt and Geoff all running the Oxford Half Marathon on the 7th October 2018 for Max’s Foundation![/p][p]Their fundraising was kicked off with a bang by Dan and the amazing crew from Didcot Fire Station, Blue Watch and the On Call did a charity car wash on the 31st March and Easter egg hunt on the 1st April and raised a fantastic £1’262!! Huge congrats guys! What an amazing start to this fundraising journey![/p][p]On the 26th May, Daniel went to a local superstore and rode his bike on rollers for 3 hours! He managed to raise £205 with the help of the fantastic crews at Didcot Fire Station. [/p][p]Daniel and John's epic cycle ride took place on Friday 15th June. They cycled over 200 miles from Oxford to Pembrokeshire, South West Wales in one day, with the support of their dad Derek and brother George in Dans customised Max's Foundation truck. The challenged tested them both physically and mentally but the managed it in just over 17 hours raising an incredible £2040!! Read more on this amazing challenge at www.maxsfoundation.org[/p][p]On Saturday the 21st July Blue Watch and the on call crews at Didcot Fire Station held a station open day. It was a fantastic day, the sun shone and the general public flocked in. There was a cake stall, crafts stand, music, BBQ, Ice creams, coffee van, rescue displays by the fire service, other emergency services, Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service and many more all to support the day, and what a great day it was we raised a further £1228 for Max's Foundation. Thank you Didcot Fire Station, non of this would have been possible with out your help and support, we are truly blessed.[/p][p]And most recently an amazing family friend's company, SMILE-Infineum UK Ltd, Abingdon, very kindly donated £600 towards our fundraising! Thank you so much Sue! We are so grateful.[/p][p]The Heart Warriors aim is to raise as much money as we can and with your help and support we will![/p][p]Thank you so much for taking the time to read about the incredible family behind Max’s Foundation! Thank you for your donation and support![/p][p]Love The Heart Warriors x [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
