My story

[p]We’re not sure how but we have managed to get places through a Ballot to this year’s Prudential RideLondon 100 (apparently it’s random and nothing to do with the fact that we’re female, fairly old and slow). The cycle ride is a 100-mile route on closed roads starting in London’s Olympic Park before heading out into Surrey’s stunning countryside and finishes on The Mall in central London. [/p][p]Our motivation to do this ride, and all the training that is going before it, is our lovely friend Vicki Bullock who at just 43 years old recently lost her bravely fought battle with cancer. Vicki and her family were very well supported during Vicki’s illness by a number of amazing organisations, two of them being Jigsaw (South East) and Macmillan Cancer Support. Jigsaw (South East) supports bereaved children, young people and their families and they have worked closely with Vicki’s son Josh to support him through the loss of his mum. [/p][p]Most of us have heard of Macmillan, whose reach is far and wide across cancer sufferers and their families. Vicki was no exception.[/p][p]The route promises ‘leg-testing climbs’ and ‘a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics, it's a truly spectacular event for all involved’. After a couple of thwarted attempts at cycling 100 miles previously and living virtually in the fens where we know there are no leg testing climbs, we know that this is no walk in the park and that we’re going to need to dig deep to get round and, hopefully, enjoy it.[/p][p]So we will complete this ride in honour of Vicki’s memory and in support of the wonderful work done by these two particular charities.[/p][p]We appreciate that there are lots of sponsorship requests these days but any donation is a good one, no matter how small. We are so very grateful for your support; Thank you! [/p][p]Heather and Morven. [/p]
