My story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page. [/p][p]I took up running aged 40 - well, it's one way to have a midlife crisis!  I was lucky (!) enough to secure a place in the London Marathon in 2014, but sadly got injured and had to defer my place to 2015.[/p][p]But who else would use a marathon as a training run???  Well that's exactly what I did, as I've now moved onto ultras and multi-day events.  I'm always looking for my next challenge - rather than asking me what I'm doing this weekend, my friends and family ask how far I'm running instead![/p][p][b]Planned races[/b][/p][p][b]2016:[/b][/p][p]Paris Marathon - April[/p][p]3 Forts Ultra 27.2 miles - May[/p][p]Weald Ultra Trail - 31.6 miles - May[/p][p]Race to the King - 52 miles in 24 hours from Arundel to Winchester - June[/p][p]Race to the Stones - 62 miles in 24 hours from Oxford to Stonehenge - July[/p][p]Coast to Coast - 105 miles in 2 days, cycle, run and kayak from Nairn to Glencoe - September[/p][p]Surrey Hills Ultra - 37 miles from Haslemere to Dorking - September[/p][p]Atlantic Coast Challenge - 3 marathons, 3 days, from Padstow to Lands End[/p][p][b]2017:[/b][/p][p]Who knows??  I have my eyes on the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc; a 10-mara-in-10-days; maybe a triathlon (if I learn to swim properly!); The Marathon des Sables - I'm open to suggestions![/p][p][b]Completed Races:[/b][/p][p][b]2016[/b][/p][p]Jurassic Coast Challenge - 3 marathons in 3 days from Charmouth to Studland along a very hilly and rocky coastal path.  Average of 8 hrs run/walking each day.[/p][p][b]2015[/b][/p][p]London Marathon - 4:55:52[/p][p]Three Forts Ultra (27.2 miles) - 5:36:12[/p][p]Richmond Marathon - 4:29:20[/p][p]The Wall - 22:06:22 - yes, you did read that right, 22 [b][i]hours!!![/i][/b][/p][p]So far, these races plus all the training have added up to [i]750 miles [/i][i]in 2015 alone, and nearly 3,000 miles since I started in 2012. [/i][i] [/i](Which does at least mean I can eat all the cakes I want to!)[/p][p]I am running all of these for the Mental Health charity Mind because I believe that the stigma surrounding mental illness needs to stop, and people with mental illnesses need the same support as those with physical illnesses.[/p][p]I myself live with depression and anxiety, and running is one way of dealing with this.  It sets me free and gives me peace.   I've definitely got the runnning bug.  That doesn't mean I always enjoy it, mind you... I sometimes dread the thought of all the long training runs I have to do, regardless of the weather.[/p][p]Every penny I raise will both support me and others through their fight against mental illness.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities.
