Team story

[p]From the 7thAugust to the 10th we will be cycling 300 miles from The White Horse in Hermitage to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This is a trip that has taken place every two years since 2013, growing in size every event![/p][p]For this years trip we have chosen two charities that have a strong personal connection for many of the people involved. Firstly, Smile4Wessex is a charity that directly fund raises for the Wessex Neurological Centre; a leading research and care institution in the country for brain traumas and illnesses. Secondly, the Hampshire and Isle of White Air Ambulance service provides crucial rapid response getting patients to the most suitable place in relation to injuries sustained, and this is fundamental to saving lives.[/p][p]On the 16thApril this year, a key member of the group, Andrew Benson’s daughter Hannah fell from a horse sustaining head injuries and was airlifted to the Wessex Neurological Centre in Southampton Hospital. She is only alive today because of the swift action of her colleagues, the air ambulance service and the hospital department. While she recovers we’d like to show our support for these amazing services and raise a vast amount of funds so they can continue their great work.[/p][p]The gratitude these services deserve does not stop there; in fact, back in 2013, the cycle ride was inspired by Chris West’s story. At the age of 16 Chris was a passenger in a car accident where he sustained serious head injuries. The Hampshire and IOW Air Ambulance service transported him to the same Wessex Neurological Centre at Southampton Hospital where they played a pivotal role in his recovery. He will be riding on the trip this year joining us for a third time![/p][p]Returning to our roots and supporting such important charities that have saved the lives of those we know and love is why we need as much support as possible so they can save more. [/p][p]There will be a party at the White Horse in Hermitage on the 11thAugust from 5pm where there will be live music, food, and the chance to welcome the cyclists back and learn a bit more about these two great charities.[/p][p]Thanks from the 2019 Hermitage2Paris 2019 team.[/p]
