My story

[p]Since 2014 I have taken part in a number of different sporting events to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity, including the Edinburgh Marathon in 2015, the Caledonia Etape, the Beatson Cancer Charity 'Aim for the Skye' cycle ride (a cycle from the Beatson in Glasgow to the Isle of Skye), Tough Mudder and a relay swim of the length of Loch Lomond. During this process I have had the privilege to become one of the Charity's Ambassadors, and as a consultant at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre I see how much the charity can help our patients.[/p][p]In 2018 I took a break from fundraising but to mark the fifth anniversary of the Beatson Cancer Charity I have signed up to five more events, to mark their '5 years with you' campaign, culminating in Ironman Wales in Tenby on September 15th. Having sworn never to run another marathon, no one is more surprised than me to find myself running another two, the second of which comes at the end of a gruelling swim and cycle.[/p][p]My five events are:[/p][p]Caledonia Etape - Sunday 19th May - A hilly 81 mile cycle around Perthshire[/p][p]Edinburgh Marathon - Sunday 26th May[/p][p]Happy Valley Triathlon - Sunday 30th June - flying the Scottish flag at this sprint distance triathlon in Pennsylvania, USA[/p][p]Stornoway Triathlon - Sunday 27th July - a standard (olympic) distance open water triathlon on the Isle Lewis[/p][p]Ironman Wales - Sunday 15th September - my first (and last) iron-distance event in Tenby, Pembrokeshire. This consists of a 3.8km sea swim, followed by a 180km (very hilly) cycle, and finishes with a marathon. Eek.[/p][p][br][/p][p]To chart my progress and what feels like relentless training involved in preparing for these events, I am writing a blog which you can follow here.[/p][p]Thank you for your support - it really does make a difference![/p]
