My story

[p]I'm running the 2019 London Marathon on behalf of Mind for many reasons, but mainly because of the wonderful help and support they give so many people during the dark times in their lives. [/p][p]In my mid twenties I suffered pretty badly with depression. I couldn't see a way out of the circumstances I was in at the time, and was falling deeper and deeper into a hole I didn't want to come out of. I didn't want to admit I needed help. I didn't want to admit that I was failing, and that I was weak. I buried it down further and further distracting myself with anything that would take my mind off it, even just for a moment. Fortunately I had the immense support of my family and friends who lovingly coerced me to start talking about the way I was feeling. Eventually, after a lot of late night talks, and even more tears, I admitted I needed help, and went to the doctors for medication and therapy to try and manage the situation. I was a lucky one, but not everyone feels they have that network of support around them. [/p][p]In the past 12 months I have lost two long time friends to suicide. Mental health is still seen by many as such a taboo subject and whilst the profile is being raised and people are starting to talk about it, there is still miles to go.[/p][p]I know that my story echos thousands of other stories all across the world, but in raising money for Mind I hope that we can together try and smash the stigma around mental health and if the money I raise helps Mind support and save the life of just one person, running 26.2 miles will be more than worth it [lt]3[/p]
