My story

[p]I am partnering up with The Shaw Mind Foundation to make mental health education a reality. Setting off on 24 September 2018 I will cycle from Lands’ end to John O’Groates to make mental health education a reality for our children and young people today![/p][p]On each week day I will be attending schools to give free talks on my own experiences of anorexia and mental health issues and offering insight to parents, teachers and pupils on how they can support each other. This will be part of the Shaw MindFoundation’s HeaducationUK Campaign. [/p][p]Mental illness can affect any one, at any time, regardless of financial or geographical situations, which is why it is so important we find a way to reach out to as many people across the UK and the rest of the world, who may not have access to support and information that they need. This bike ride will be doing just this. [/p][p]HeaducationUK, led by The Shaw Mind Foundation, is a national crusade to make mental health education a compulsory core curriculum subject within primary and secondary schools. Maintaining good mental health is just as much of a life skill as reading and writing, and it needs to be taught alongside English, maths and physical education. Last year The Shaw Mind Foundation galvanised the required 100,000 public signatures to get mental health education debated in parliament in November 2017. It is fantastic that the government has made a commitment to make mental health education a reality in 2020 but we need to start this today![/p][p]I will be raising money for The Shaw Mind Foundation so that they can carry on their work in schools raising awareness around mental health. [/p][p]£5 – will allow us to continue driving forward our HeaducationUK campaign to make mental health education compulsory in all UK schools by helping to fund further campaigns to the government to make mental health education a compulsory subject in its own right and support our quest to begin vital research into why mental health education is a necessity. [/p][p]£10 – will allow us to continue to help those who have been subjected to a mental health injustice and fight their corner so that they are able to be treated fairly and without prejudice.[/p][p]£20 – will allow us to provide up to 100 copies of self-help guides and information packs to schools, giving children access to information and support whenever they need it.[/p][p]£50– Will allow us to deliver a remote access mental health awareness session via skype to a school* providing an excellent starting point to increase mental health awareness and start the conversation[/p][p]£100 – will allow us to provide a 1-hour mental health awareness talk with Q&A session, plus 100 free guides for future references, support and information[/p][p][br][/p][p] [/p][p] [/p]
