Team story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page.  I have cycled from Geneva to Milan from 6 Sep to 10 Sep September - covering 360 miles in 4 days and climbing a total of 17,000ft. This for me was a supreme challenge. It was tougher than I imagined.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.  I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]Hope Against Cancer is raising funds for cancer research in the University Hospitals of Leicester. It was set up 10 years ago and has already raised over £4 million which has helped fund many research trials locally. Hope has also opened a Centre of Excellence with the help of Cancer Research UK and helped fund a Cancer Research Nurse at Leicester Royal Infirmary.[/p][p]As a result of efforts by Hope cancer rates in Leicestershire are already falling and we are attracting the some of the best minds in cancer treatment and prevention. My involvement with Hope goes back to my wife Val having had first uterine and then breast cancer. Chemotherapy and eight operations later she is finally out of it, thanks to the excellent care she had from all the doctors, nurses and support staff in Leicestershire hospitals, NHS at its best. Supporting Hope is our way of not only putting resources back into cancer care but to thank the lovely people who took us through a difficult journey.[/p][p]To look back at my training and weekly progress please read my blog Singh of the Mountains on[/p][p]I have secured a sponsorship from Pedal Power in Loughborough who have supplied the Trek Domane bike for the challenge. Livio of Livio's Italian Restaurant has got into the spirit of The Italian Job and is collecting sponsorship from his guests and has promised to match it.Thanks also to numerous traders in Shepshed collecting for Hope and my colleagues at Rosebery Medical Centre who have donated in a big way, not to mention the kids at Charnwood CC swimming club and their tutor Rose Bond for collecting a huge amount on their gala day.[/p][p]Thanks to all who have been donating in memory of my brother in law Kuldeep who tragically and suddenly died on 1st September.[/p]
