My story

[p]I have been to Uganda a number of times to visit hospitals and health centres that deliver critical mental health care to some of the poorest people. These are patients who often have literally been chained up for years simply because there was no treatment available. This is changing and Jamie's Fund is making a difference. The frightening thing is that it costs very little to help someone and so a relatively small amount of money can have a huge impact. Training clinical staff (nurses and doctors and others) who don't have a mental health background in simple diagnosis and treatment can make a huge difference not only to their patients but also to their families and their communities.[/p][p]I have seen the impact that removing a patients chains has on their life and seeing someone who has been chained up for years in a single room with no furniture has had a profound impact on my life. Releasing them from their chains and treating their illness had a profound effect on theirs![/p][p]One of the photos is of a mental health clinic held under a mango tree. The greatest danger came from the occassional falling fruit! [/p][p]Another is of clinical staff with their certificates following a successful course sponsored by Jamie's Fund.[/p][p]Through the 200x100 challenge I intend to raise a minimum of £200 towards this work and I hope that you will be willing to help me to smash this target.[/p]
