My story

[p]As our annual charity fundraiser, Imperial College Sri Lankan Society (ICSLSoc) has joined hands with the charity Their Future Today to address the urgent needs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an alternative to Sapphire (the largest student run Sri Lankan event in the UK) which is the dinner/dance organized annually by ICSLSoc. The profits from Sapphire would have been donated to charity, however, hosting Sapphire was not possible due to the social distancing rules enforced due to the pandemic. Instead, ICSLSoc, along with Their Future Today, are raising funds for the project, ’COVID-19 Response: Feed a Family in Sri Lanka’. [/p][p]This project aims to provide nutritious food parcels comprising of rice, dhal, vegetables, eggs, milk powder, flour, sugar, biscuits, medicines, seeds and soap to pregnant mothers in Sri Lanka. It also aims to feed families of six for a week and keep vulnerable children who are at risk of abandonment fed, and away from the risk of being sent to orphanages which may be emotionally and physically harmful to their upbringing. At the food parcel collection point, the charity will also be raising awareness on the importance of reducing plastic, personal hygiene, and the significance of community responsibility in reducing the spread of COVID-19. In the long-term, this project will keep 3000 disadvantaged families healthy and together and will prevent thousands of vulnerable children from being sent into orphanages. [/p][p]Therefore, the committee of ICSLSoc ask for your kind donations which would go a very long way in helping disadvantaged communities in our home country. Donations are not limited to UK residents or students - any donation, regardless of the amount, will have a huge impact and so we kindly urge you to be contribute to this worthy cause. [/p][p]The committee of ICSLSoc thanks you immensely for your generosity.
