My story

[p]One of my goals for 2018 is to better look after my physical and mental health. Walking is a big part of that and in May, I'll be joining a team of authors and creatives to complete the Isle of Wight Challenge.[/p][p]We'll be walking 104km over 2 days. I've done some fairly big walks in my time, but this is by far the longest and hardest challenge to date.[/p][p]Why am I raising money for Mind? Mental illness is a dark and lonely place. A hidden disease that's invisible to many, but all too real for those who suffer from it. Our health services are so overstretched in this area that charities such as Mind end up providing much needed support to thousands of people every year, as well as raising awareness and trying to tackle the stigmas that still exist around mental health.[/p][p]I struggle with bouts of anxiety and depression. When the big black cloud descends, it can be hard to push it away. But I know I am lucky. There are many people who struggle every day with severe illnesses and they need our support.[/p][p]I’d be really grateful for any contributions – however small – to help me achieve my goal of helping Mind to support people with mental health problems.[/p][p]Alison x[/p]
