My story

[p]My name is Ian (Strava profile Ian Bish) I enjoy running, mountain biking & walking in the mountains.[/p][p]This year I am running several events (you can follow my progress on Strava) so I have decided to support a local charity, Be Free Young Carers based on Harwell Campus.[/p][p]I am running these events this year after a couple of successful half marathons last year, so I thought why not give something back?[/p][p]The charity supports young people across Southern Oxfordshire who themselves are carers for others by giving them support, guidance and time away from their everyday lives.[/p][p]I want to raise money to allow these young carers to have access to fun things such as trips and activities which will develop their self confidence and give them time to socialise with others in the same situation.[/p][p]Lets allow these young carers to have the freedom to enjoy and thrive from the great opportunities that Be Free YC offer to these amazing young people.....[/p][p]*UPDATE*... I have been informed by the charity that the money raised from this page is paying for a summer day out to the coast for the young carers, this is a wonderful thing as some of them don't get a summer break at all..... thank you all who have donated to the page so far this year, you really are making a difference to someone out there... thanks also for the support & positivity that everyone has shown me.[/p][p]https://befreeyc.org.uk/about/[/p][p]Events I have signed up to run this year:[/p][p]Brighton half marathon 24/02/2019 Finished in 2hrs 2 mins[/p][p]Reading half marathon 17/03/2019 Finished in 2hrs 44 seconds[/p][p]White horse half marathon 07/04/2019 Finished in 1hr 57 mins[/p][p]Milton Keynes half marathon 06/05/2019 Finished in 1hr 58 mins[/p][p]Heyford Airbase half marathon 16/06/2019 Finished in 1 hr 58 mins[/p][p]Swindon half marathon 22/09/2019 Finished in 1hr 54 mins[/p][p]Oxford half marathon 13/10/2019 Finished in 1 hr 58 mins[/p][p]Many thanks to all who have donated & supported me in my running this year......[/p][p]Brighton Half: Great Weather, first one of the year is always tough, great atmosphere finished in 2hrs 2 mins which was good.[/p][p]Reading Half: Chilly start, amazing support from the residents of Reading, nice weather overall, Finished in 2hrs 44 seconds... Getting quicker![/p][p]White horse half: Chilly run this time, low numbers made for a great race & pacing allowed for a Personal Best.... next stop Milton Keynes [/p][p]Milton Keynes Half: perfect weather for running... lots of hills & narrow pathways = sardines, found this race very tiring physically due to the climbing & descending. Finished in 1hr 58 mins.[/p][p]Heyford Airbase Half: Strange weather.... Raining, Windy, Sunny, Raining, Windy, Sunny.... was nice to run with friends from work on this race, made the day much more enjoyable.... Finished in 1 hr 58 mins.[/p][p]Swindon Half: Raining... got soaked at mile 1, wasn't too much of an issue as the rain kept me cool & the local support was brilliant.... fastest time so far this year..... next stop Oxford.[/p][p]Oxford Half: Rain, Rain, Rain.... what can I say? Everyone there was positive, it was really wet & injury slowed me down towards the end.[/p][p]Well that’s it for my challenge, I completed it & it was great in some parts & not so good in others... anyone who runs knows how good it is to get faster & fitter as you progress & not so good when you have to deal with injuries or illness.[/p][p]A massive thank you to all of those who donated to the charity.... I know it’s made a real difference to the young people who have benefited from your kindness.[/p][p]Also a great big thank you to the people who have supported me whether cheering on race days, running with me on race days, or just a kind supportive word in passing... it’s helped out loads & made it all worthwhile.[/p]
