My story

[p]Kielder Marathon in lieu of 2019 New York Marathon![/p][p]My name is Ian Jackson I am a Inspector with Northumbria Police.[/p][p] [/p][p]No doubt you will be aware of the tragic events in 2012 when two Police Officers lost their lives in a gun & grenade attack in Manchester.[/p][p] [/p][p]The father of one of the Officers, Nicola Hughes, has established a charity in her name. The PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.[/p][p]The aims of the charity are to provide practical support for the children of murder victims.[/p][p] [/p][p]In 2016 Bryn Hughes was joined by 31 Police Officers from all over the UK in running the New York Marathon. The fundraising from this funded a project with the National Homicide Service that looks at helping children that are suffering from post-traumatic stress following the loss of a parent.[/p][p] [/p][p]In November Bryn will return to New York accompanied by over 75 Police Officers, staff and Prison officers and take part in the world’s biggest marathon.[/p][p]This year the charity will be focusing their efforts on funding a number of young people through University.[/p][p]We can only imagine what these young people have experienced by losing a parent through murder, and possibly at the hands of their other parent.[/p][p]Their future life plans will no doubt be very limited as a result of this so we would like to give them the opportunity for a brighter future.[/p][p]Both my wife and myself had entered the New York marathon to raise money for this excellent cause however since entering we have found out that my wife Danielle is expecting our first child in December. This has meant that our plans to run New York have had to be cancelled, this is a great shame.[/p][p]As I am still keen to raise some funds for such a great charity on 13th October I will be running the Kielder Marathon in Northumberland in lieu of New York. Kielder is known for being a challenging course with lots of hills.[/p][p]If you are reading this please give anything you can towards what is an excellent charity![/p][p]Thanks[/p][p][br][/p][p]Ian Jackson[/p][p] [/p][p]Thanks you in anticipation,[/p]

Best of luck Ian, I did the Kielder Marathon last year as my first marathon and absolutely loved it, very scenic , but they call it undulating ( HILLS !). Fantastic Charity. Enjoy
