My story

[p]It will come as no surprise to most, that I am no runner, two left feet and better legs seen hanging from a nest. [/p][p]I was told “it takes four attempts to get a place” when applying to run in the London Marathon. Having no expectations to be accepted, I applied for the Virgin London Marathon 2018 and received a place to run for Teenage Cancer Trust. After the initial shock I now embark on the long winter nights of training.[/p][p][br][/p][p]As most of you will know on the 27th March 2017 our eldest daughter Sabrina aged 20 lost her 13 month battle to small cell ovarian cancer, an extremely rare form of ovarian cancer. Both Karen and I as parents and Stacie our youngest daughter who lost her big sister, cannot explain the void her presence has left.[/p][p] Sabrina would have been celebrating her 21st Birthday on Friday 17th November 2017.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Unfortunately we are not unique and very many continue daily to experience the loss of loved ones and whilst this is very personal to us, our family, friends and Sabrina's friends we thank you for all your support.[/p][p]Sabrina started a Biochemistry Degree at York University with a Year in Industry programme in September 2015 and was very active in the University of York’s swimming club. Sadly, she was diagnosed with small cell ovarian cancer in December 2015 and had to take a leave of absence from her studies. After surgery, chemotherapy and a period of recovery, Sabrina’s scans showed her to be cancer-free, but shortly after restarting her studies the cancer returned. Throughout this ordeal Sabrina remained positive and engaged with her course and close friends both at home and in York – she was and will continue to be an inspiration to all that knew her. [/p][p] [/p][p]Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer everyday in the UK therefore we would like to raise as much money as possible for 'Teenage Cancer Trust’ who supported the whole family during her ordeal.[/p][p][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
