My story

[p]Early 2018, Ruth Strauss, wife of Sir Andrew Strauss the former England cricket captain, was diagnosed with an incurable lung cancer that affects non-smokers. Ruth died on December 29th 2018; she was 46 years old and mother to two children, then aged 10 and 13.[/p]IN HER MEMORY, SIR ANDREW HAS LAUNCHED THE RUTH STRAUSS FOUNDATION TO:[p]Provide emotional support for families to prepare for the death of a parent from cancer[/p][p]Raise awareness of the need for more research & collaboration in the fight against non-smoking lung cancers.[/p][p][br][/p][p]To many people, wearing a football shirt may not seem much of a challenge or a sacrifice and I guess they'd be right. However, as an ardent Evertonian the idea of wearing the shirt of our biggest rivals seriously repulses me. I don't mind admitting that I'm a very very bitter Evertonian, even seeing someone wearing a Liverpool shirt in the street often elicits a stream of vitriol under my breath. If I'm honest I have surprised myself and my family by suggesting raising money by wearing the red rag. Even my son suggested that there were less embarrassing challenges that I could have undertaken.[/p][p]In order to raise money for this amazing charity I'm opening myself up to a lot of ridicule and grief from friends, neighbours and colleagues who are aware of my dislike of "The Unbearables" from across the park. Please, if you can find it in your heart, to make my torment worthwhile, donate to this great cause. Thanks Ian[/p][p][br][/p]

Hey Ian Taking 'red for Ruth' to the limit. Any step to breaking down barriers is good. Who knows - you may just meet a friendly 'other' and realise there is more that unites us. Good luck.
