My story
[p]On April 3rd this year I will be taking part in the Marathon Des Sables 2020 which is widely regarded as one of the toughest endurance races in the world.[/p][p]Consisting of 6 marathons in five days across the sands and dunes of the Sahara, where I will be carrying all my kit and sleeping out under the stars. [/p][p]I’m pushing myself well beyond my comfort zone, going from what now seems like the small 26.2 mile marathon to 156 hot and sandy miles. I would like to raise as much money as possible for Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) to support the fantastic work they do for veterans. WWTW supports those who served in the armed forces with their physical, mental and social injuries on their journey to long-term security, independence and employment. I’m honoured to be running with an incredibly driven team including ex servicemen and women, including the amazing Duncan Slater, a double-leg amputee.[/p][p]My present training consists of running, physio and some very bizarre habits including bathing feet in white spirit (to toughen them up), individual toe socks and daily sauna visits (heat acclimation). I aim to come back with all my toenails but this can't be guaranteed. I would be so grateful if you could donate and inspire me to push myself through this challenge. The race has been entirely self-funded meaning every penny raised will go towards WWTW programmes.[/p][p]Thank you so much - I promise to give this my all and return from the Sahara battered and burnt but hopefully not beaten.[/p][p]To find out more about WWTW please visit walkingwiththewounded.org.uk or watch the below clips.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
Glad you're keeping yourself busy!
Such an enormous challenge. Enjoy the delights of the sahara and sleeping under the stars.
