My story

[p]Our Story:[/p][p]Hello, We are Carla and Issy and we have set up a fundraising page to raise money for Liberty's legacy and Bone Cancer Research Trust. Liberty's legacy is a special fund in the name of a truly amazing girl that funds life saving research into Ewing's Sarcoma.[/p][p]Our friend, Liberty Grace Schurer, passed away in 2017 at just 14 years old after battling a rare and very aggressive form of bone cancer for 13 months. Liberty was misdiagnosed for 19 months until she was devastatingly diagnosed with cancer on her 13th birthday. [/p][p]Libs was an absolute inspiration to those around her and proceeded with her treatment in typical libs fashion! Liberty rarely ever let her dazzling and positivity smile drop from her face which is what she will be forever remembered for. Her smile and laugh was contagious and she had the ability to light up every room.[/p][p]After finishing countless rounds of chemo, limb salvage surgeries and radiotherapy at just the age of 13 Liberty discovered a new lump in her leg which had heartbreakingly spread to her lungs, her liver, and her lymph glands. Regardless, Liberty fought on desperate to experience one last birthday, and one last Christmas, opting for more chemotherapy to extend her life.[/p][p]With this news, Libs threw her final birthday to celebrate will all of her friends - it was easily the most heartbreakingly sad but one of our fondest memories to look back on in our lifetimes. The only time we ever saw Libs cry was at the end of this evening as she was carried out in her dad's arms and blue lighted to hospital. This was the last time we ever saw Liberty Schurer but we still remember her as the light of every room, the laughter that was contagious, the positivity that made everyone smile, and the strength that we will forever admire. [/p][p]It was in these last few weeks of her life that the idea for Liberty's legacy was born! Liberty's biggest frustration throughout the course of her illness was the lack of funding and research into her disease. Libs' greatest wish is that we fundraise in her name, so no other child have to suffer, no other family have to be ripped apart. We hope this is a way for Libs name to live on and make a difference and give honour and meaning to her life. We will forever be in awe of the person she was and never stop fighting for her and her legacy to be achieved.[/p][p]Liberty went to school with Issy and she fondly remembers her laugh and positive energy lighting up the school day. It didn't matter what was happening in Liberty's life, her main priority was always others and it made her so unbelievably special to us all. Even throughout her diagnosis Libs was forever dazzling everyone with her vibrant personality and whipping off a wig for laughs and just forever being herself and the girl we all adored and continue to love. She was an incredible girl and one which we both treasure in our hearts. The final conversation I had with her, she wiped my tears away and told me "I love you, and I'm not going anywhere" I like to think that's true, and she's watching over myself and everyone else who loves her dearly.[/p][p]The day Liberty passed, a part of everyone who had the blessing of knowing her, hearts broke. She had impacted everybody so deeply and we all loved her so much more than words can be described. Everyone's lives have been forever changed by Liberty and seeing her first hand physical pain has taught us no experience we face will ever come close to what Libs faced at such a young age. [/p][p]Us and Liberty's friends tried to make her feel as normal as possible throughout her battle and she always managed to outshine us all as she turned up to parties looking utterly flawless. Liberty was the kindest soul with the most beautiful heart and she deserved so much more than what she was given. She was taken from this earth far too soon, and it will forever be a dimmer world without her.[/p][p]She truly was one in a million.[/p][p]So therefore we are taking part in a skydive from 13,000 ft in July 2021 for #LeapforLiberty in memory of Liberty Grace and her battle with Ewing Sarcoma. We are so excited to push ourselves out of our comfort zones and do something incredible in memory of our friend. [/p][p]By participating in events for Liberty's Legacy we feel as if it's a way to carry Libs with us into our future. We hope that with our participation, We can help the Schurer Family get closer to completing Liberty's selfless request.[/p][p]We hope we will be doing Libs proud by doing this. We both miss her so much and not a day goes by where she isn't on our minds.[/p][p]Thank you so much for reading our story and donating, every donation helps children, just like Liberty. Every penny gets us closer to finding a cure.[/p][p]This one is for you angel![/p][p]Issy and Carla x[/p]
