My story

[p]03/09/2019 [/p][p]Returned home from France and this medal was waiting for me . I must admit it was a bit of an anti climax to receive it almost 4 weeks later than the event but I wanted to share it with all my sponsors . From a personal point of view the event was a disappointment but hey I did it and collected a substantial amount for this wonderful children's cancer charity. So again a big thank you again to everyone who sponsored and supported me .[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]01 /08 / 2019[/p][p]3 days to go ! [/p][p]Well it is as it is on the day and there is nothing else I can do to prepare . My only ambition is to get over the finishing line at the Mall , hopefully not being chased by the broom van . The knee and the wrist are painful but I guess none of us oldies can boast of being 100% intact but at least we are alive . Please give a thought to all those poor kids with cancer and facing an uncertain future . Christopher's Smile is a charity dedicated to research into helping give our children some hope .[/p][p]A big thank you to everyone who has sponsored me, encouraged me, trained me and put up with me .[/p][p]It's not too late to dig deep for just a few pennies ,"coz kids get cancer too "[/p][p]Love Izzy [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]15.07.19[/p][p]Well this has just got real! I have now got my start time and on August 4th, I'm off the blocks at 8 am . For those with nothing better to do on that Sunday, I can be tracked on the app, my rider number is 32034 .[/p][p]A big thank you to all my friends and relations who have sponsored me to date. I'm slowly reaching my financial target as I am my confidence and fitness target. Each time I think I can't do this and shouldn't be so ambitious, I remember our dear friend John who passed away at the beginning of this year. He tackled the 100 miles with such determination and bravery and he will remain my inspiration to battle through my negativity with my painful knee.[/p][p]You'll be pleased to know that this will be my last update and last plea for sponsorship. I will be so encouraged if you could dig deep into your pockets to find just a few pennies to help this amazing charity that is helping to fund research and treatment for children's cancers .... "coz kids get cancer too " [/p][p]Love Izzy[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]This is my 3rd and final entry for the Prudential RideLondon100. You may remember that the first time I competed (2017) with a newly broken wrist which meant I had to have numerous stops to change gears with the other hand and then last year I was lucky to stay on my bike through the gales and pouring rain. This year, I'm hoping to have an uneventful ride with time to reflect on how lucky I am to have the opportunity and the fitness to be able to ride again. After the event I shall hang up my cleats ( or use them less) and start to act my age and not my dress size. [/p][p]I'm honoured to ride for this amazing charity. I have been blessed with 10 healthy grandchildren and 1 great grandchild but I can only imagine the horror of losing a child . Christopher died at nearly 6 years of age with a brain tumour and since then his parents have been relentless in their quest to raise money to give hope to other young children.[/p][p]Please read their story, their vision is "for every child diagnosed with childhood cancer, to not only survive but to reach adulthood enjoying a good quality of life". [/p][p]Christopher's mum and dad feel strongly that new treatments are urgently needed for the 20% of children who do not survive their disease, along with those children who survive but face a lifetime of post treatment issues.[/p][p] One of our club members has a personal connection to the family and our club has already made a donation . By helping me to reach my target you will be helping Christopher's parents achieve their vision ..... and I better get training . [/p][p]Izzy [/p]
