Team story

[p]One Day To Go!![/p][p]So we have one day to go and to say we are excited and nervous at the same time is a massive understatement! A massive thank you to everyone who has sponsored us and given us such tremendous support. We set off tomorrow at 8.30am from Burbage Edge in Derbyshire, with our rather unique support vehicle “Spike Le Trike” Ridden by Jim McVitte. Katey Dent will be doing regular “Pupdates” around the course and letting people know via Facebook how we are getting on. It will be a huge challenge, but we will do it no matter how long it takes!! Thanks again to everyone involved, the list is too long to mention everyone, but you know who you are!!! [/p][p][br][/p][p]We will be going to the lovely Kenwood Hall Hotel at the end of the Marathon around 2.30 or earlier, so please feel free to join us if you are free!![/p][p][br][/p][p]All our thanks Tony, Paul & Team “It’s a Marathon not a Snickers!”[/p][p][br][/p][p]B&B Vehicle Contracts and City Taxis sign up to “The Ultimate Challenge” for Sheffield based charity Support Dogs.[/p][p]The Story so Far:[/p][p]Chesterfield based B&B Vehicle Contracts and City Taxis who operate in Sheffield, Chesterfield and surrounding areas have been long standing supporters of Support Dogs. So when Steve Barker challenged Tony Dent, fellow director @ B&B Vehicle Contracts & Paul Gosney, Business Development Director at City Taxis, to come up with an idea to raise a “serious amount of money” for Support Dogs, there was only one challenge that would fit the brief, The Virtual London Marathon![/p][p]They are already in training and have planned all their routes! After running together on and off for a number of years, both believe that the challenge is very much achievable and might even get Steve to run part of the Marathon with them! [/p][p]Tony explains the other reason for signing up to the mammoth task ahead (The Steve made me do it line doesn’t cover all of it!)[/p][p]“As well as our company being a proud sponsor of Support Dogs, I have known David Heugh (Partnerships' Ambassador for Support Dogs) for many years, as we were once neighbours and we have obviously kept in touch. Being given a Support Dog is truly life changing for the families who receive them and being able to contribute as a business and an individual is something that is very close to my heart. Speaking of my heart – I had open heart surgery at 46 years old back in October 2019, which was a massive shock to myself and my family. The cutting-edge mitral valve surgery was performed here in Sheffield at the Northern General by the amazing consultant heart surgeon Stephen Hunter – I owe him my life. I was in training for the Sheffield half marathon (again raising money for Support Dogs) and was finding it harder and harder to run, I was tired all the time and could not train properly at all. I came back from a trip abroad and after several visits to the doctors and hospital, I was told that I would have to have the surgery. I am so grateful for everything and thought the biggest challenge ever would be to run the London Marathon now I am recovered! All in aid of the most amazing charity.[/p][p]Paul Gosney commented:[/p][p]Over the years I have seen David Heugh give so much support to the charity & I realise how important it is to keep such an amazing charity going. The love, joy & companionship that these amazing animals can give is truly priceless & raising a little cash to help keep them going would be very fulfilling.[/p][p]My mum, who has sadly passed away now, had a Bi-polar disorder & not many people could understand disorder or her, but her little springer spaniel Nell did…and gave her so much love & attention at the most crucial times when she needed an outlet to share her thoughts with or just to go on a nice country walk.[/p][p]Thank you for the opportunity to personally support you guys & the dogs of course.[/p]

Hi Tony and Paul, we were there at the start at your adventure at Burbage Bridge whilst out for our morning bike ride. I spotted the support dogs logo and we got chatting. I hope you had a great day and enjoyed crossing the finish line. Well done!
