Of course, it’s great for physical health but I find it vital for my mental wellbeing too. I want to grow this new found cornerstone of my life into something that can be put towards charitable cause.[/p][p]My 12 in 12 Challenge[/p][p]That’s why I will be undertaking a yearlong commitment of running 12 races in 12 months to fundraise for AFFACD UK’s school rebuild project. The reason in undertaking this lengthy programme is to showcase long-term commitment to the AFFCAD UK’s project as well as maintaining a healthier lifestyle. This is a massive challenge for me, having only run one 10km race before. It includes different event formats, from full marathons and half marathons to 10km races. [/p][p]Here’s the race schedule:[/p][p]COMPLETED:[/p][p] 1 of 12: The Simply Health Bristol 10k, 5th May 2019[/p][p] 2 of 12: Cheddar Gorge Challenge Half Marathon, 16th June 2019[/p][p] 3 of 12: Run London Victoria Park Summer Half Marathon 2019, 21st July 2019[/p][p] 4 of 12: Severn Bridge Half Marathon, 25th August 2019[/p][p] 5 of 12: The Simply Health Bristol Half Marathon, 15th September 2019[/p][p] 6 of 12: Amsterdam Marathon, 20th October 2019[/p][p] 7 of 12: Emer Casey Foundation London 10km, 17th November 2019[/p][p] 8 of 12: Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Winter 10K Series, 7th December 2019[/p][p] 9 of 12: Gloucester Marathon, 19th January 2020[/p][p]NEXT:[/p][p] 10 of 12: Hyde Park 10km, 22nd February 2020[/p][p] 11 of 12: Bath Half Marathon, 15th March 2020[/p][p] 12 of 12: Brighton Marathon, 19th April 2020[/p][p] 13 of 12: Brecon Beacons Trail Challenge Ultra Marathon, 2nd May 2020[/p][p] 14 of 12: Uganda Marathon, 30th May[/p][p]It would be mega if anyone fancies joining-in with me and raising some funds to contribute.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Help AFFCAD UK’s rebuild of Excel Primary School in Uganda[/p][p]I chose to fundraise for AFFCAD UK because of my unique insight into the incredible work that they do; their Co-Founder and Director, Elizabeth Parker, is my cousin. It’s been inspirational following her journey in Uganda over the years from afar by seeing the progress it’s made and the people they help. Fingers crossed we can all contribute to their next BIG challenge – the rebuilding of their primary school in Bwaise, Kampala, Uganda.[/p][p]AFFCAD UK are a charity who work with AFFCAD Uganda to help end poverty through education and employment, focusing on the community living in Bwaise. Bwaise is the largest, poorest slum in Kampala, Uganda's capital city. 90,000 people live there without access to services like clean water, shelter or sanitation. And 65% of these are aged between 16-25. [/p][p]AFFCAD UK believe that education is the most powerful way to break the poverty cycle, so they focus on providing quality, accessible education and empowering the young people and families who live in Bwaise.[/p][p]AFFCAD and AFFCAD UK run the only free primary school in Bwaise, but rising rents and poor building conditions had made the original site unsafe and unsustainable. So, in 2018 they raised the money to buy a plot of land and rebuild the school as a bigger, brighter place for learning. The first phase of the build was completed in February, and the youngest children have moved into the new site. [/p][p]AFFCAD UK are a grassroots charity run by volunteers, which means there aren’t many running costs and all the money they raise can go directly to their projects.[/p][p]#ExcelRebuild storySo, what happens now?
